Vaughn Greenwood:

The "Skid Row Slasher," Vaughn Orrin Greenwood, was convicted of slashing the throats of 9 transients as they slept in alleys and other areas downtown and in Hollywood in 1974 and 1975. He was suspected of killing at least 13 people. He was sentenced to 32 years to life in prison, and is in Ironwood State Prison in Blythe.

For openers, Vaughn Greenwood was a 32-year-old black man, lacking any obvious deformities, and from the testimony of acquaintances, he was not impotent. He was a loner and a homosexual, who finished seventh grade before he fled his Pennsylvania foster home and thumbed a ride to California.

Gay serial killer is given three life sentences

Gay serial killer Steven Grieveson was jailed for life last night after being found guilty of murdering three youths who he strangled and then set on fire.

The public gallery at Leeds Crown Court erupted as the jury's forewoman delivered the verdicts after more than four hours of deliberation.

Sentencing Grieveson to three life sentences, Mr Justice Holland described him as "plain evil". The judge said he would recommend to the Home Secretary that his successors think "long and hard" as to whether Grieveson was still a risk to the public before releasing him.

Allan Grimson:

A GAY serial killer has admitted murdering a teenage sailor - but is refusing to help police find the body.

Former Royal Navy petty officer Allan Grimson confessed to killing radio operator Simon Parkes, 18, who disappeared in Gibraltar in 1986.

Grimson, who was jailed for life last year for two other murders, has drawn rough maps for police showing the areas where they should search, but refuses to identify the exact location.

Simon, from Gloucestershire, was on shore leave in Gibraltar after a Far East tour on HMS Illustrious when he vanished.

Grimson, 42, has hinted that two other men might be buried nearby. A police source said: "He has given us details of how he killed Simon Parkes because he's been persuaded that this young man's grieving parents have a right to know the truth and give him a proper burial."

Grimson, who was in the Navy for 22 years, was given two life sentences for murdering naval rating Nicholas Wright and barman Sion Jenkins after they rejected his homosexual advances.

He told police he would kill again and boasted that murder was better than sex.

William MacDonald (the Mutilator) was classed as Australia's first true serial murderer. MacDonald was born in Liverpool, England, in 1924. Between June 1961 and April 1963, MacDonald terrorized Sydney with a string of gruesome murders.

MacDonald's modus operandi was to select his victims at random (mostly derelicts), lure them into dark places, violently stabbing them dozens of times about the head and neck with a long bladed knife, before severing the victims' testicles and penis.

History

Years before his killing rampage, MacDonald was enlisted in the army and transferred to the Lancashire Fusiliers. One night MacDonald was raped in an air-raid shelter by one of his corporals. At first he felt bad about what had happened. But soon after he realized that he actually enjoyed the experience. It was then he realized that homosexuality was an option. He eventually became an active homosexual, soliciting men in public toilets and pubs.

Michael Lupo:

A former choir boy in his native Italy, Lupo discovered his homosexual tendencies while serving with an elite military unit in the early 1970s. Commando training taught him how to kill bare-handed, and he took the lessons with him when he moved to London, in 1975.

Starting out as a hairdresser, Lupo worked his way up to ownership of a stylish boutique, buying himself a $300,000 home in Roland Gardens, South Kensington. Along the way, he boasted of liaisons with some 4,000 male lovers, recording the intimate details in numerous journals.

The payoff for promiscuity arrived in March 1986, with a positive diagnosis of AIDS, after which Lupo apparently ran amok, indulging his taste for sadomasochism in a violent campaign of revenge against the gay community.

On March 15, 1986, 37-year-old James Burns was prowling leather bars in search of a companion for the night, undeterred by his own diagnosis of AIDS two weeks earlier. Vagrants found his body in a London basement, mutilated with a razor, sodomized and smeared with excrement, his tongue bitten off in the frenzied attack that took his life.

Three weeks later, on the afternoon of April 5, AIDS victim Anthony Connolly was found by children playing in a railroad shed, his body slashed and smeared with human offal in a carbon-copy homicide. Lupo was leaving a gay bar, the night of April 18, when he met an elderly tramp on Hungerford Bridge and something inside of him suddenly "screamed out at the world." Assaulting the stranger, Lupo kicked him in the groin and strangled him on the spot, afterward dumping his body into the Thames.

The following day, Lupo met Mark Leyland at Charing Cross, and the men made their way to a public restroom for sex. Once there, Leyland changed his mind, whereupon Lupo produced an iron bar and attacked him. Escaping with his life, Leyland reported the incident as a mugging, later telling the truth to police after Lupo's arrest. (He has since disappeared.) Victim Damien McCluskey was last seen alive, in a Kensington tavern, on April 24, 1986. His body, strangled, raped, and mutilated with a razor, was discovered some time later in a basement flat.

On the night of May 7, Lupo picked up another gay partner, attempting to strangle him with a black nylon stocking, but once more his prey escaped. This time, police received a full report, the victim touring gay bars with an escort to identify the culprit, finally spotting Lupo on the night of May 15. A search of Lupo's home revealed one room converted to a modern torture chamber, and his confiscated diaries were reported to contain the names of many prominent connections.

Convicted at his trial in July 1987, Lupo received four life sentences and two terms of seven years each (for attempted murder), with the judge's assurance that in his case, "life meant life." At this writing, Interpol is double-checking mutilation deaths in Amsterdam, West Berlin, Hamburg, Los Angeles and New York City, seeking connections with Lupo and his various trips abroad, butno further charges were filed.

David Villarreal:

A homosexual drifter, 26-year-old David Villarreal was arrested in March 1981, after an informant tipped police to his involvement in a seven-year series of murders around Dallas and San Antonio, Texas.

Picked up on March 10, Villarreal cheerfully directed police to the body of his latest victim, killed two days earlier, and tacked on confessions for crimes in which he was not yet a suspect. According to statements recorded by Texas authorities, Villarreal claimed his first victim in San Antonio, during 1974.

Moving to Dallas in late 1978 or early '79, he scored number two, hammering a middle-aged stranger to death. In March 1979, he had been held for questioning in the murder of Ernest Garcia -- stabbed with an ice pick, then beaten with a board and concrete block -- but he was finally released for lack of evidence.

A month later, he staged a double event with the slayings of 30-year-old Charles Moya and 32-yearold Tony Gutierrez, dispatching both victims by slitting their throats. More recently, in San Antonio, he had beaten 18-year-old Joe Duque to death on March 3, 1981.

On March 8, he used a claw hammer to murder 72-year-old Robert Manley, the victim's body discovered on March 11 as a result of the killer's confession.

Police reported that "sexual gratification was at least part of the motive" in Villarreal's San Antonio murders, while those committed in Dallas seemed purely mercenary, connected with various robberies.

Bruce McArthur, Canadian serial killer:

An alleged Canadian serial killer is now facing an eighth murder charge.

Bruce McArthur, 66, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Kirushna Kumar Kanagaratnam, 37.

It is the latest charge against McArthur since his arrest in January. Police say he trolled bars in Toronto's 'Gay Village' as well as gay dating apps for victims, predominantly targeting Muslim men from South Asia or the Middle East.
