Paedo BBC boss accused

Quote:
A FORMER BBC boss who worked on Match Of The Day faces 14 child porn charges.

Senior producer Martyn Smith, 44, has been accused of possession of indecent photos of children.

Smith - who masterminded the Sport Relief charity with MOTD host Gary Lineker - was arrested following one of Britain's biggest paedophile investigations. Operation Algebra, led by Scottish police, uncovered 125,000 sick images resulting in the jailing of eight men in May.

The cops alerted Scotland Yard about London-based suspect Smith. Iain Livingstone, Assistant Chief Constable of Lothian and Borders Police, said: "We referred a case to the Met which involved a senior figure at the BBC.

"The individual was in a very senior position and he became apparent to us during Operation Algebra. We passed that information on and he has now been charged and has appeared before a magistrates' court."

Divorced Smith, who took early retirement from the Beeb in 2007, joined BBC Sport 20 years ago.

He was also part of the BBC Sport team that persuaded ex-PM Tony Blair to play tennis against Wimbledon Champion Pat Cash at London's Queen's Tennis Club to publicise the 2004 Sport Relief event.

In 2006, he documented Little Britain star David Walliams's cross-Channel swim.

Smith, of Wandsworth, South West London, appeared before Westminster magistrates on October 12. The case was adjourned.

Default Paedo warning over Townsend

Paedo warning over Townsend

Quote:
RESIDENTS in Miami, Florida have been sent leaflets warning of a sex offender in their midst — British rock legend PETE TOWNSHEND.

The 64-year-old guitarist is due to perform with The Who during the halftime show at next month's Super Bowl.

He was cautioned by cops in 2003 for accessing child porn on the web and placed on the sex offenders' register for five years.

The National Football League has drawn criticism from child abuse campaigners, who say Townshend should not be allowed to take the stage at America's premier sporting event.

Safety

Protect our Children, a Florida activist group, has now stepped up its campaign by sending leaflets to people living near Landshark Stadium in Miami Gardens, which is hosting the glitzy event on February 7.

Bearing a photograph of a grinning Townshend and headlined "Sex Offender Advisory", the fliers warn: "Townshend is a British citizen who was registered as a sex offender in his home country in 2003, for an offence related to child pornography.

"He will be at large in Miami in February when he arrives to perform at the Super Bowl with his musical group known as The Who.

"This is a community notification distributed in the interest of public safety."

Listing his height as 6ft and his weight as 185lb, the leaflets give the musician's full name of Peter Dennis Blandford Townshend.

They have been printed in both English and Spanish and are due to drop through residents' doors today.

The move comes after Protect our Children and another group, Child Abuse Watch, failed to persuade organisers and sponsors of the Super Bowl to drop Townshend from the halftime show.

Evin Daly, founder of Child Abuse Watch, said: "Even someone looking for a job as a groundskeeper at Land Shark Stadium wouldn't get hired with a sex offender status in his past — why then does Townshend?"

He added in a letter to the NFL's vice-president Roger Goodell: "This is the person you intend to use as entertainment for the Super Bowl - a sex offender.

"There is no room for tolerance or excuses for any crimes that involve the most innocent among us — our children.

"You and the NFL must realise that you too have this duty and not reward a known, recorded sex offender with a Super Bowl show."

But the controversy has failed to put off sponsors of the mega-event, which include Coca-Cola, Burger King, IBM and Visa.

The NFL is also standing by Townshend, a divorced father of three, noting that he was only ever cautioned and never criminally charged.

The singer claimed he only looked at child pornography on the internet as part of a "research project".

Townshend was one of 3,744 people arrested in the UK as part of Operation Ore, a nationwide police crackdown on internet perverts.

The Who is considered one of the greatest and most influential rock groups of all time, selling 100million records worldwide and notching up hits with songs including Pinball Wizard, My Generation, Substitute, and Won't Get Fooled Again - now the theme tune to the TV crime drama CSI Miami.

Townshend, whose career with the group spans 40 years, was named one of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time by Rolling Stone magazine.

A myth spread particularly thickly in "the movement" for some reason.

When you apply for a visa you must include your CRB sheet. On this will be detailed all of your crimes. They can and do ban people as a matter of course with any sort of a record. Then you appeal and are assessed in person by an immigration officer at your expense.Obviously townsend and his backers have access to top lawyers. He (townsend) could have a lifetime work visa (Its why you have to keep your old passport of you have one). That said townsends offence is almost certainly moral turpitude so his presence could be challenged. He can even be excluded at the point of entry even with a visa by an immigration officer.
The Who fanclub if there be such a thing will almost certainly have the details of his flights arrival in the US.

Townsend is the tip of the iceberg in the candyman case, the soham police officer and ronnie barkers son are the only 3 plus 50 other police officers engaged in child welfare !!! out of more than 5,000 subscribers from the UK who's details were passed on to the government by the FBI.
This is a scandal that is swept under the carpet what about these other 50 coppers all resigned with full pensions and are probably engaged as consultants by unsuspecting or equally perverted childcare agencies.
It was an interactive website that offered free content far in excess of anything else available on pay websites.Yet these people townsend included dug out their credit cards or in the case of the filth their Amex charge cards supplied by their constabularies and payed $100 for the hidden content !
Townsend said he was writing a book well where is it ?

An escape from prosecution, but torment goes on for Townshend

Rock star admits he was wrong to view child pornography on Internet and is placed on the sex offenders' register for next five years

By Jason bennetto Crime Correspondent

Thursday, 8 May 2003

Pete Townshend, the guitarist of the Who, is to be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for the next five years after being cautioned for paying to look at child pornography on the internet.

Pete Townshend, the guitarist of the Who, is to be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for the next five years after being cautioned for paying to look at child pornography on the internet.

The announcement that the 57-year-old rock legend will not face a criminal charge for using his credit card to access a website containing photographs of babies and children being sexually abused is the latest episode in Britain's biggest ongoing police inquiry. The investigation, codenamed Operation Ore, is likely to see up to 6,000 people cautioned or prosecuted for similar crimes.

Townshend's caution – issued yesterday at Kingston police station in west London – drew criticism from some child campaigners who said it was far too lenient, while the man himself continued to defend his actions and issued a lengthy statement to reporters and photographers gathered outside his mansion in Richmond upon Thames.

It also brings to a close four months of frenzied media coverage and speculation about the rock star's future.

While outwardly a caution may seem like a lenient punishment, it does have wide-ranging implications for Townshend and could greatly restrict his future movement.

One consequence of being placed on the Sex Offenders Register is that Townshend is likely to be banned from travelling to the United States for the next five years.

It was inevitable that the multi-millionaire would be punished when in January he admitted that he had used his credit card in 1999 to access the Texan based website, Landslide Productions, which charges £21 a month to access child abuse of the vilest kind. Investigators have stressed the horrific nature of some of the images of abuse, and several journalists in Canada who were shown examples of the material later need counselling.

Townshend's credit card details were among those of about 6,500 British men, and a handful of women, identified by American postal inspectors during an investigation into the subscribers to Landslide Productions. The details were passed on to the British police about a year ago, who then launched a massive inquiry to identify the offenders and bring them to justice.

The operation hit the headlines when it emerged that among the suspects were two police officers closely involved in the Soham inquiry to catch the killer of the 10-year-old girls, Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells.

As the police worked through the huge list and Townshend's name was discovered, it was only a matter of time before it reached the press.

Confronted by dozens of journalists, the rock guitarist quickly issued his defence and admitted the crime, but said that it had been for research for an autobiography, which includes passages about his being sexually abused as a child, as well as a campaign against child abuse that he had been planning for seven years.

Police seized his computers and officers from the Scotland Yard's Child Protection Group carried out a four-month investigation in which they established that Townshend did not possess any downloaded child-abuse images.

It came as no great shock then, when Scotland Yard announced yesterday that rather than being charged and face a possible jail sentence, Townshend had been cautioned for the access and payment for child-abuse images.

As well as not downloading the images – an offence that attracts a maximum five-year jail sentence – other factors in his favour are that he appears to have only made one credit card payment; he did have a credible explanation for his actions; and he did not have a history of similar offences.

Conscious of being accused of favouritism towards a celebrity, Scotland Yard also stressed that they took advice from the Crown Prosecution Service to ensure "fairness and consistency in the handling of suspects across London" in this type of case.

The Metropolitan Police also went to some lengths to point out the seriousness of Townshend's actions. A Met statement read: "The access and payment for child abuse images is an offence, and inciting others to distribute these images leads to young children being seriously sexually assaulted to meet the growing demands of the internet customer.

"It is not a defence to access these images for research or out of curiosity."

A caution means Townshend has a criminal record and he automatically goes onto the Sex Offenders Register for five years. Furthermore a sample of DNA has been taken and he has been fingerprinted and photographed. For the next five years he must notify police of any intention to travel abroad for eight days or more and inform them if he changes his name or address. He will also undergo a multi-agency assessment to determine whether he is of any risk to children.

A spokeswoman at the American Embassy in London said that anyone with a criminal record would not be given a visa to travel to the United States, but they could apply for a waiver, which is decided on case by case. But a US source said that it was "highly unlikely" anyone on the Sex Offenders Register would be granted one, particularly one connected to child abuse.

Townshend yesterday issued a statement in which he insisted police had "unconditionally accepted" his explanation that he was looking at the site as research for his "campaign" against child pornography.

Default 'Blair covering up paedophile scandal?'

While British Prime Minister Tony Blair is under criminal suspicion in the "honours-for-cash" scandal that has rocked his Labour government, we have been told that there is an even more explosive scandal that Blair, up to now, has managed to hide behind the draconian British policy of issuing "D-Notices," government orders that prohibit the British media from reporting on certain "national security" cases.

In 1999, an international investigation of child pornographers and paedophiles run by Britain's National Criminal Intelligence Service, code named Operation Ore, resulted in 7,250 suspects being identified in the United Kingdom alone. Some 1850 people were criminally charged in the case and there were 1451 convictions. Almost 500 people were interviewed "under caution" by police, meaning they were suspects. Some 900 individuals remain under investigation. In early 2003, British police began to close in on some top suspects in the Operation Ore investigation, including senior members of Blair's government.

However, Blair issued a D-Notice, resulting in a gag order on the press from publishing any details of the investigation. Blair cited the impending war in Iraq as a reason for the D-Notice. Police also discovered links between British Labour government paedophile suspects and the trafficking of children for purposes of prostitution from Belgium and Portugal (including young boys from the Casa Pia orphanage in Portugal).

Default BBC apologises to nonce Jonathan King for cutting him out of TOTP

Quote:
Sex offender Jonathan King has forced the BBC into a humiliating apology after he was cut out of a repeat of Top Of The Pops.

The corporation has been screening 1976 editions of the show on BBC Four. King appeared in April of that year with his hit It Only Takes A Minute, which reached No 9 in the charts.

However, his appearance was cut from the re-run for fear of offending viewers – a decision which King described as a ‘Stalinist revision of history’.

Jonathan King performing his hit It Only Takes a Minute on Top of the Pops in 1976. Cambridge graduate King started his career as a record company executive, discovering multi-million selling acts Genesis and 10cc, before becoming a pop singer

Now 66, King was convicted in 2001 of sexual assault on five teenage boys in the 1980s. He was given a seven-year jail sentence and was released on parole in 2005.

He complained to the BBC’s director general Mark Thompson about being left out of the programme in April this year.

In his response, which King has posted on his website, Mr Thompson apologised and wrote that the omission should ‘not have happened’.

Mr Thompson wrote: ‘The BBC’s complaints process begins with a response from the relevant programme makers and I therefore asked my colleagues in BBC Four to address this matter.

‘Their response is as follows: “We are sorry that Mr King’s appearance was edited out of this particular programme. We accept that this should not have happened and we would like to apologise for any upset this caused”.

‘I want to join BBC Four in apologising for this incorrect decision.’
King has also been assured that no more of his Top Of The Pops appearances will be edited out.

Mr Thompson’s response continued: ‘We can assure Mr King that there is no policy in place requiring any of his appearances, or those of any one else, to be removed from repeats we show on the channel.

‘We can also assure Mr King that his performance will not be edited out of any future repeat of this particular episode of Top of the Pops.’
MARK THOMPSON'S LETTER OF APOLOGY TO JONATHAN KING

Dear Jonathan
Thank you for your email. Please accept my apologies for the delay in replying.

I am sorry to hear that you were unhappy that your performance was edited out of an episode of Top of the Pops recently repeated on BBC Four.

The BBC's complaints process begins with a response from the relevant programme makers and I therefore asked my colleagues in BBC Four to address this matter.

Their response is as follows:
"We are sorry that Mr King's appearance was edited out of this particular programme. We accept that this should not have happened and we would like to apologise for any upset this caused.

"We can assure Mr King that there is no policy in place requiring any of his appearances, or those of any one else, to be removed from repeats we show on the channel.

"We can also assure Mr King that his performance will not be edited out of any future repeat of this particular episode of Top of the Pops."

I hope this response is helpful, but please come back to me if there are any further points you wish to raise and I will ensure that these are dealt with in accordance with our complaints process.

I want to join BBC Four in apologising for this incorrect decision.

Best wishes
Mark Thompson Director General BBC

King was delighted with his victory over the BBC. He said: ‘I wrote to Mark Thompson asking why the BBC have adopted the Stalinist revision approach to history, and this is a very nice response.

‘The principle of not altering history is a far bigger one than It Only Takes a Minute – would they remove Hitler from retrospectives?’

He claimed Seventies star Gary Glitter, 67, who was convicted of possessing child pornography in the UK before being convicted in Vietnam for committing obscene acts with minors, had also been removed from repeats.

He went on: ‘I hope this means that any other showings of any other episodes will also feature my performances – the Seventies were full of them, and in the Eighties shows, I’m on virtually once a month doing American chart rundowns.

‘And I hope other censorship, such as removing Glitter from earlier shows, will now be corrected.’

Cambridge graduate King started his career as a record company executive, discovering multi-million selling acts Genesis and 10cc, before becoming a pop singer.

As well as continuing to perform and produce pop records, he presented popular programmes including Entertainment USA.

He was shamed in September 2001 when he received a seven-year sentence for six offences against five boys aged 14 to 16, committed between 1983 and 1989.

King was arrested in November 2000 after the allegations were made public.

At the time, he was released on £150,000 bail, with £50,000 of it put up by X Factor creator Simon Cowell. He was re-arrested two months later.

The BBC had no further official comment on Mr Thompson’s apology to King

A corporation source, however, said: ‘The BBC doesn’t think it should be rewriting history so will be showing these programmes in their entirety.’
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2050698/BBC-apologise-paedophile-Jonathan-King-deleting-Top-Pops.html

So the BBC are promoting paedophiles then. Presumably he will have received royalties every time the programme is shown - disgusting.

Default Jimmy Saville and other celebrity paedophiles investigations/arrests

Quote:
Sir Jimmy Saville was the subject of a two-month sex pest investigation by journalists from the BBC, it was claimed today.

Reporters from Newsnight launched a probe into allegations about inappropriate behaviour by the Jim'll Fix It legend towards schoolgirls just days after his death on October 29.

But they were eventually told to spike the story, which was due to be broadcast just days before a BBC1 Christmas special celebrating the presenter's life.

Newsnight journalists interviewed three women who met Sir Jimmy in the Seventies when, as presenter of Top Of The Pops, he was at the height of his fame, Sunday Mirror reported.

All three were teenage pupils at a school in Surrey which the broadcaster visited regularly as part of his charity work.

It is claimed that Sir Jimmy took girls there for rides in his car. Each of the women is said to have alleged that he had taken them out, individually, in his car and behaved inappropriately towards them.

One of the women, who is now in her 50s, agreed to waive her anonymity and allow herself to be interviewed by Newsnight reporters on camera, the Sunday Mirror said.

The investigation was launched after journalists for the flagship BBC news programme discovered that complaints about Sir Jimmy were made to Surrey police in 2007 - nearly 40 years after the incidents were alleged to have taken place.

Police carried out their own investigation at the time, but the Crown Prosecution Service was not convinced there was enough evidence to take action against the star.

A BBC source told the Sunday Mirror that journalists hoped to establish the truth of the claims and the details of the police investigation by interviewing the three women.

But senior figures in the corporation then told reporters to scrap the report, which would have clashed with a Boxing Day Jim'll Fix It tribute programme hosted by Shane Richie.

The decision to spike the story is said to have angered many staff, who had spent months working on the report.

'Someone, somewhere should have realised that a report trying to uncover a dark side of one of the BBC’s favourite sons was a silly thing to do,' the source told the Sunday Mirror.

Surrey Police confirmed that allegations had been made and investigated, and a CPS spokesman said a reviewing lawyer had advised officers a lack of evidence meant no action could be taken.

Sir Jimmy's friends and family were upset at the revelations regarding the investigation.

The star's niece, Janet Humble accused Newsnight of 'muck-raking'. She told the Sunday Mirror: 'As a family we just wish Sir Jim could be left to rest in peace.'

Stephen Purdew, Sir Jimmy's friend of 30 years, who helped to organise his funeral, said: 'These are allegations from 40 years ago. He’s not even alive to defend himself.'

The BBC yesterday said its reporters were investigating alleged failings within the CPS, but axed the report as they did not have enough proof to run the story.

Perhaps the reason this nonsense was cancelled is because there is not a single shred of EVIDENCE !.

I hate beasts as much as the next bloke, but I have watched Jimmy on the telly since I was little in the late 60's. He has always IMHO been an eccentric character with a heart of gold - look at the £Millions he has raised for charity.

I don't know whether he was or not, but there's plenty of articles on the net form long before he died that suggest unsavoury activities. If I remember correctly, there was some claim that he had been involved in some kind of Masonic abuse ring with a children's home in Jersey. He claimed he had never so much as heard of the place but a photo emerged of him sitting outside it.

Charitable donations and activities mean nothing:

Is that dope you are smoking in your pipe, Bob? Jimmy Savile was a four by two.

The comments on this video suggest he was being perhaps a little too friendly with one of the Nolans aged 14. I think they mean around the 3.36 mark.

A new television documentary will claim Sir Jimmy Savile sexually abused teenage girls while at the height of his fame in the Seventies.

The programme, based on research by a former Surrey police officer, includes interviews with women, now in their 40s and 50s, who will claim they were subjected to abuse by the veteran presenter.

The documentary is being developed by ITV Studios, which also produces shows for rival broadcasters. Senior sources at ITV say they have made no decision on whether to broadcast the film – which one programme insider said would ‘shock the nation’.

The alleged victims have been tracked down by Mark Williams-Thomas, a former detective constable with Surrey Police who is now a successful TV presenter specialising in child protection issues.

The insider said some of the women, one of whom was just 13 at the time of the alleged abuse, were terrified of Savile for decades afterwards.

He said: ‘Jimmy Savile was predatory in that he used his hit shows as a vehicle to get to those young girls.

‘All of those who have been interviewed for the documentary were under the age of consent at the time of the abuse. The youngest one was just 13 years old.’

The insider said the documentary also included testimony from people who worked with the Jim’ll Fix It star, while a production source says at least one of the women taking part has waived her right to anonymity so she can talk openly about the abuse.

It is still uncertain if any broadcaster will buy the rights or screen the show.

Mr Williams-Thomas has collaborated with the commercial broadcaster on several recent productions. In 2009, he fronted the acclaimed documentary, To Catch A Paedophile, which involved him confronting a former Catholic priest who admitted on camera to trying to groom a child over the internet.

Jimmy Savile became a national treasure following his stint on Top of the Pops and spent much of his life raising money for charity

Savile, who never married, raised millions of pounds for charity during his lifetime and the allegations will shock his huge army of fans. But it is not the first time Savile, who also fronted the Clunk Click road safety campaign, has been linked to allegations of child sex abuse.

Former detective Mark Williams-Thomas said he has interviewed women who say Savile sexually abused them

In 2007, Surrey Police launched an investigation after complaints that the star had abused pupils at the now-defunct Duncroft Approved School for Girls in the Seventies.

Savile was a regular visitor to the school and is alleged to have taken girls on visits to BBC Television Centre in return for sexual favours. He is also alleged to have made advances on them while taking them for drives in the countryside.

The police investigation was dropped after a Crown Prosecution Service lawyer who was reviewing the investigation advised that no further action be taken.

In January, it emerged that BBC2’s Newsnight programme had launched its own investigation into the same allegations, shortly after the star’s death at the age of 84 in October 2011.

Reporters from the flagship news show are believed to have interviewed three former pupils from the school.

One woman is said to have waived her right to anonymity so she could talk about her ordeal on Newsnight. A subsequent decision by the BBC not to broadcast the report led to allegations of a cover-up, but a spokesman insisted the story was dropped for editorial reasons.

A spokesman for Surrey Police said: ‘In 2007, Surrey Police received a historic allegation of indecent assault which is alleged to have occurred at a children’s home in Staines during the Seventies.

‘The allegation was investigated by police but no further action was taken against any individual.’

A headstone proclaiming 'It was good while it lasted' has been unveiled at the final resting place of Sir Jimmy Savile 10 months on from his death.

The star’s nephew, Roger Foster, explained that the delay for the installation of the £4,000 headstone was to give the land chance to settle and stabilise after the legendary DJ was buried at an angle so his coffin could face the sea.

He said: 'Because he was buried on the side of a hill, and at an angle, we had to wait for the land to settle.

'Due to the weight of the black granite forming the headstone, we knew it wouldn’t be anything less than eight months or so.'

Family and friends attended a short service at 11.30am this morning at Woodlands Cemetery in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, the town the famed philanthropist regarded as his second home and where he had a seafront apartment.

The ebony black polished granite memorial, which is 6ft wide, is made up of a centre panel with a bronze covered crucifix and two side panels turned slightly towards the centre.

A laser etching on one side shows a picture taken of Jimmy around 1965 when he was 37. The image on the other shows Sir Jimmy opening the new post office in South Milford four years ago.

The inscription on the grand headstone states: 'Sir Jimmy Savile OBE, KCSG, LLD, Died 29th October 2011, Aged 84 years, Beloved son of Agnes and Vincent, Loving Brother of Mary, Marjory, Vincent, John, Joan and Chrissie.'

Exposure - 22.35 next Wednesday is about Jimmy Savile, I saw it advertised after last night's episode about undertakers.

"The Other Side of Jimmy Savile"
Former detective Mark Williams-Thomas conducts an in-depth investigation into allegations that Sir Jimmy Savile sexually abused vulnerable teenage girls at the height of his fame.

Default Anyone got a subscription to the Times? Pete Townshend on child porn article

Quote:
Pete Townshend, guitarist and songwriter of The Who and one of the most iconic figures in the history of British music, has finally revealed the circumstances behind his arrest in 2003 on suspicion of using child pornography.

Speaking exclusively to The Times for an interview about Who I Am, his long-awaited memoir that this paper is serialising, Townshend described his disastrous decision to investigate the roots of child pornography as a product of “white knight syndrome, an attempt to be seen at helping"
