A song about a friend

If you see - Your friend seems to be
Neither friend, nor foe - So-so...
If you never have understood
Whether he’s bad or good...

Take to mountains high This guy,
Don’t you leave him at once - Give a chance,
Let him be in one link with you -
There you’ll see who is who.

If the climb makes him feel Quite ill,
If he only fails And wails,
Having stepped on the ice He cries,
Having stumbled he dies...

It’s a cur who is near - It’s clear,
Waste no words on this foe - Let go!
Such guys shouldn’t be brought along -
They deserve no song!

If the guy didn’t howl Or growl,
And went on being tough And rough,
And held on With a groan
If You had flown From a cliff.

If he’s broken through With you
To the peak which is shining blue -
Then you know that upon this guy
You may fully rely!

George Tokarev. Translation, 2001
Edited by Robert Titterton

Your Friend

If your friend appeared to be
Neither friend nor enemy
And you don’t know
Is he good or bad

Take a risk take the guy uphills
Never let him to be alone
Let him always be roped to you
You will see what he is

If uphill he is no good
Gets off colour and rushes back
Step on ice and looks not so nice
Makes a wrong step and cries

He’s an alien man to you
Don’t reprove him this is no use
Such people don’t go uphills
And nobody sings about them

If he didn’t whimper or whine
Gloomy, sullen but moved uphills
And the moment you fell from hills
He was groaning and holding the rope

If he attacked the hill with you
Stood at the top light headed
Then as you rely on yourself
You can rely on him.

Š Alex Sokolov. Translation, 2011

Last Train

As always, we were standing together till dusk,
As always this wasn’t enough.
As always, your mother called you home,
And I rushed to the train station.
And again, the last train
Ran away from me, I missed it.
I’m going home along the rails,
It’s like a habit for me now.

It is so silent around, there is nobody.
There are just rails and they groan from tiredness.
Only moon is running after me,
My dear sleepless friend.

And again, the last train
Ran away from me, I missed it.
I’m going home along the rails,
It’s like a habit for me now.

I can’t explain or calm my happiness down,
That’s how I spend my nights.
Tomorrow I’ll meet my loved one and we’ll be together till stars appear on the sky,
And will be late for the train again.

I suppose you don’t have
To wait for me, train,
I will walk home again
Along the rails, because it’s like a habit.

Ferris Wheel

The poplars are so sorrowful in the winter park,
The lindens ask to wait for spring.
The boats lie quietly upside down,
Like the side caps of drowsy soldiers.
And I remembered a faraway spring
When we rode the Ferris Wheel, Wheel, Wheel...
And now it's asleep.

But I fly away
With you again.
I fly away- Hey!
And I yell one phrase
I yell, "I love you",
And I fly to the stars,
I yell and fly again.
La-la-la-la-la (xN)

The winter park is so white, so white...
Like the park, my love is covered by snow.
The sad discus thrower is sunk in the snow,
And under the snow the dance floor dreams of waltzes.
And I forgot everything...
Except the Devil sets up the Ferris Wheel,
Wheel, Wheel...
And your face flies by!

But I fly away
With you again.
I fly away- Hey!
And I yell one phrase
I yell, "I love you",
And I fly to the stars,
I yell and fly again.

The Wolf chasing the Hare reminds me of the Coyote trying to catch the Roadrunner in the Warner Brothers cartoons.

Looking at your blog, the Hippo had the Gorodki pins in "machine gun nest" formation.

4:49-6:19 - This song was written specifically for the cartoon.
In Russia, New Year's characters are Grandfather Frost (Дед Мороз) and his "granddaughter" Snow Maiden (Снегурочка).

In many cases, the performance begins with the fact that Grandfather Frost and children call for Snow Maiden.

The hare:
Tell me, Snow Maiden, where were you?
Tell me, dear, how are you?

The wolf:
Grandfather Frost! I'm always running after you.
I have already shed a lot of bitter tears.

The hare:
Come on, go ahead and dance!

The wolf:
No, Grandfather frost,
No, Grandfather frost,
No, Grandfather frost,
Just You Wait!

The hare:
The kids have been waiting for my gifts for a long time
And you will be punished by me.

The wolf:
At last all my dreams come true
The best gift for me is you!

The hare:
Come on, go ahead and dance!

The wolf:
No, Grandfather frost,
No, Grandfather frost,
No, Grandfather frost,
Just You Wait!

Well, Grandfather frost,
Well, Grandfather frost,
Well, Grandfather frost,
Just You Wait!

"Ostankino Tower (Russian: Останкинская телебашня, Ostankinskaya telebashnya) is a television and radio tower in Moscow, Russia, owned by the Moscow branch of unitary enterprise Russian TV and Radio Broadcasting Network. Standing 540.1 metres (1,772 ft) tall, Ostankino was designed by Nikolai Nikitin. It is currently the tallest freestanding structure in Europe and 11th tallest in the world. The tower was the first free-standing structure to exceed 500 m (1,600 ft) in height. Ostankino was built to mark the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution. It is named after the Ostankino district of Moscow in which it is located.

Construction began in 1963 and was completed in 1967. Extensive use of prestressed concrete resulted in a simple and sturdy structure that was a masterpiece of Soviet engineering in the time period it was built. It surpassed the Empire State Building to become the tallest free-standing structure in the world. It held this record for nine years until the CN Tower was completed in Toronto, Canada in 1976, which surpassed its height by 13 metres (43 ft)."

Priest had a dog (У попа была собака)

Priest had a dog,
He loved it;
The dog had eaten a piece of meat,
Then he killed it,
Killed and buried it in the ground,
And he had written an inscription
THAT:

"Priest had a dog,
He loved it;
The dog had eaten a piece of meat,
Then he killed it,
Killed and buried it in the ground,
And he had written an inscription."

And etc. and etc.

Translation by barsiscev

In this way, the musicians pompously sing nonsense
In addition, on their drum written the Russian word curs/mongrels/pooches/pariah-dogs ("дворняги"). But it is written in Latin script.
