Question What language[s] would you learn?

What language[s] would you learn? What language would you be prepared to learn?

I've listed several in the poll, the major and most widely spoken tongues including several non—Indo-European ones (like Arabic and Mandarin/Beijing-dialect Chinese; from a practical/strategical point of view...) If the one[s] you'd like to learn isn't in there specify the one[s] in a post.

If you have different choices, or wish to answer more specifically (based on the use and/or preference), then answer it in the following style:
What language[s] you'd consider learning? For...
  • Practical purpose[s]?
  • Strategical purpose[s]? (i.e., understanding one's enemy)
  • Beauty?
(In the poll, vote for the overall language you see as most useful or find most interesting to learn).

I voted for...
  • Arabic - For strategical purposes. Since it's a language spoken in a huge and conflict-ridden part of the world, with a lots of media attention. Especially also, and perhaps most of all, for the fact that Arabs and their language gets ‘closer’ to us - particularly for us in Europe - as well; through immigration and so on. I already have a certain amount of Arabic vocabulary, it's what I got from living in North-Western Europe... LOL.
  • Sanskrit - Because it's the probably the best-preserved most ancient Indo-European tongue in the world.
  • Italian - It's a nice language, and [has been] used by many artists; composers, painters, architects and so on throughout history. From a practical point of view, it's handy for when I'm on vacation in Italy (and my Italian is rather poor).
  • other: probably some Baltic tongue, like Lithuanian or Latvian. Why? Ancient Indo-European tongues fascinate me. Lithuanian and Latvian are, like Sanskrit, several of the oldest - and best-preserve - Indo-European tongues. They're that old, they even share a lot with Sumerian (which I find rather fascinating; oh and, no, Sumerian is/was not ‘Semitic’ like the Jews and their followers claim).

Furthermore, I'm already studying two fine - Satem, Indo-European - languages at the moment; namely Russian and Persian. Both at which I'm both doing rather well. I'm quite fluent at both already, mostly refining grammar, lexical/vocabulary knowledge, expressions and so on.

Excellent poll Aistulf!

I chose French, German, Italian, Arabic, and Other. The languages I would want to learn that were not on the list consist of Gaeilge(the most), Sicilian(separate language from Italian for those who do not know), Norwegian, Dutch, and Paarsi. I have somewhat started on some of the languages I have just mentioned. I did learn German, but forgot almost everything. I know several Italian words and phrases, but also know the prnounciation. Latin is a language I forgot to put too. I did take an introduction course of it, but forgot much of it. Too many endings is what started to confuse me.

I really do not know why I picked French. Sometimes it sounds ugly, but I guess it all depends on the individual. In music, the French language usually sounds good. African dialects of French sound horrid. I have noticed that the Québécois French has borrowed a lot of English(every language these days ...) ..., but that is not suprising since they have pretty much allowed American culture and customs into their society(globalization).

Arabic/Paarsi, well unfortunately Arabic is classified as a Semitic language. I only say unfortunate because the Jews are Semites too, but with that aside learning the two languages of the Jews most current enemies(they are still everyone's enemy) could be extremely helpful in possibly assisting them in the fight against the Zionist occupations.

Thank you for voting and your extensive reply, FVROR TEVTONICVS. I couldn't give you a reputation point, so I'm hereby letting you know. Interesting choices you made, particularly as far as Pârsi goes (did you try that program I suggested to you?)

I wish others here on VNN would take as much interest in languages as you and I do.

No problem.

I did try a few Paarsi programs(some were too difficul, but also I kept switching to linux having lost them all) that you showed me and I still have that Arabic script teacher too. The one you showed me last week or the week before.

I would love to learn German the language of my people. On a strategic level I think in the KWA Spanish would be handy. That way when the beaners are talking amongst themselves thinking whitey doesn’t understand you would know what they are up to.

First I chose "Other"....meaning I would like to learn Afrikaaner (Boer) because its a dying language ( I was going to say bring back Latin ).

Otherwise from the list, I want to know Russian fully.

One of my best friends works in a sporting goods shop and the mexishits come in there jabbering to one another in bastardized spanish. He keeps an eye on them and his ears opened. After several minutes pass he'll speak to them in spanish much to their disgust that a gringo knows their language.

Latin. The mother of it all. Law, Science, the Romance languages, etc. All stem from it

French because I rerside near the border to France.
I already know German. I get French radio and could watch French TV on Saturdays when the ol'lady went out at night. They dropped all 4 French channels from cable, one at a time, though. Pissed me off
French is the language of the arts and is pleasant to hear. I plan to move there, anyway. So, it wouldn't hurt to learn it

Interesting choice for a new language, Dutch. What made you consider it? It's not very widely spoken, so has it perhaps anything to do with your heritage?

Also, I could help you out with Dutch.

Ebonics can be summed up as communication that defies cognition.

The nigger use of semiotics as a substitute for vocalised communication, also confuses the hell out of humans in contact with muggers and other common occupational groups in the black community.
