UAV crews from Russia and Belarus perform the tasks of the night stage of the "Falcon Hunting" competition in the Voronezh region

29.08.2020 - 08:54

UAV crews from Russia and Belarus have started performing exercises at the night stage of the Games competition "Falcon Hunting" at the Pogonovo training ground in the Voronezh region.

On the first night of the second stage of the competition, military personnel practiced the "Find and report" exercise, during which they used the infrared cameras of their unmanned aerial vehicles to detect camouflaged military equipment at a training ground with a total area of about 30 square kilometers.

The time for conducting reconnaissance is strictly limited to one hour – during this time, the crews should detect four military objects - a tank, an IFV, a truck and a MLRS launcher and record each of them from at least three sides. Teams are evaluated based on the total time spent, starting from the moment the flight task is handed over to the drone landing at the specified point. The main thing in this exercise is accuracy: for an error in determining the coordinates of each of the objects, the crew is awarded 5 penalty minutes.

The team of the Armed Forces of Belarus coped with the task faster than anyone else, and the Russian crew did not take much longer.

The "Falcon Hunting" international competition is held as part of the Army international games from August 23 to September 5. Operators of unmanned aircraft systems from Russia and Belarus compete in conducting aerial reconnaissance, correcting artillery fire, and ensuring the accuracy of ground units.

During the Suvorov attack competition, Iranian crews showed the highest skill and called the Far Eastern route the most difficult in the world

30.08.2020 - 20:30

At the international competition "Suvorov attack", two crews of the Islamic Republic of Iran and one crew of debutants of the competition – military personnel of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar-took part in the individual race. Iranian crews, being last year's prizewinners of the competition, showed record high speeds and high skill in controlling infantry fighting vehicles when passing obstacles on the Far Eastern route of the competition. According to the results of the races, both crews covered the route in just over 30 minutes each. According to the interim results, they are ranked third and fourth after the two Russian crews that performed earlier. The Myanmar crew completed the route in 51 minutes.

After finishing, the Iranian military crews reported that the Russian Far Eastern route was much more difficult for them than at the training grounds in other countries, in particular last year's venue for the international competition - the Korla training ground in China. At the same time, they noted the high class of obstacles and the target environment.

It is worth noting that the track created at the Far Eastern Higher Combined Arms Command School training ground is really difficult with distributed and well-prepared obstacles. Unlike others, the Far Eastern highway has a natural surface and a lot of turns that allow to test the skills of mechanics-drivers to the full. The passability of the route is constantly changing depending on weather conditions. The 4.5 km route has 16 turns and 10 obstacles. In addition, the crews should hit targets simulating IFVs, helicopters and anti-tank grenade launcher crews with a cannon and tank Kalashnikov machine gun. Penalty laps are awarded for each miss and missed obstacle. The best crew is considered to be the fastest to complete a high-speed race.

The final of "Suvorov Attack" international competition for crews of infantry fighting vehicles is being held in the Far East for the first time. The competition is considered one of the main ones in the system of Army international games. Eight teams have arrived to participate in the competition. These are representatives of the Republic of Belarus, Afghanistan, Iran, Equatorial Guinea, Myanmar, Mali, Congo and Russia. Most of the countries are participating in the competition for the first time.

Having shown the best result, with a total deviation from the center of 30 centimeters, the Russian paratroopers won the stage, the paratroopers of the People's Liberation Army of China showed the second result with a total deviation from the center of 2 meters 18 centimeters, the third were paratroopers from Belarus with a total deviation from the center of 6 meters 25 centimeters.

The intrigue remains at the international competition "Clear Sky". The team from Cambodia continues to amaze with their success and still remains in the lead, despite the lack of experience in such competitions.

The final stage of the "Pursuit Race" will decide everything.

The past stage "Sprint Race" included live firing from MANPADS from a place and in motion at targets imitating a helicopter and high-speed air targets. It was also necessary to hit targets imitating unmanned aerial vehicles from a tank machine gun. In addition, the mechanics-drivers of the BTR-82A had to quickly and accurately overcome the obstacle course.

3rd crews of
Congo - red
Tajikistan - yellow
Laos - blue

02:00 - "Glory to the special faculty of Far Eastern Higher Combined Arms Command School. The Hero City Blagoveshchensk." [This military school trains tankers from the Congo, who participate in the tank biathlon.]

02:40 - Race start.

17:00 - The Tajikistan team will be reduced in time because the Congo team prevented them from completing the task.

26:37 - The Congo team violated safety rules by pulling off the track and they were disqualified.

In the present-day u.s. army you would never see officers giving flowers to female soldiers, that would be "sexist." I like giving flowers to a woman.

I know this is a very minor detail Alex, but do you know when the Russian army switched to smaller peaked caps like the general giving flowers is wearing? For so many years they had those really big caps like North Korean officers still wear which are patterned after the old Soviet army style. But I keep forgetting the USSR is now nearly thirty years in the past.

We are Russian barbarians (as Fico and Gladiatrix write about us).

That is why we give women flowers, Ray

I may be wrong, but as far as I understand, these caps appeared in 2013 (after Shoigu became Minister of Defense in 2012).

Having set two records in the relay on combat vehicles, the crews of the Russian team won the final stage of the Airborne Platoon competition

31.08.2020 - 17:59

The final stage of the "Airborne Platoon" competition for field training among paratroopers, held within the framework of the Games-2020, has ended at the "Strugi Krasnye" airborne troops training ground.

3 crews took part in the relay from each team. The race was held on a set closed route, extending 5 kilometers individually, where each crew of the team passed one circle with a firing line and passed the baton to the next.

After taking the start, the combat vehicles alternately overcame the log, the maneuvering area, and the anti-tank ditch. After that, at the firing line, having loaded 12 armor-piercing tracer shells to a 30-mm automatic gun and 18 rounds to a paired machine gun (7 of them tracer), they went to the firing line. In case of a miss, the combat vehicle had to pass one penalty circle, 300 meters long for each unguarded target.

"For the gunner, it was difficult - this is shooting, because there is a crosswind, after each shot the projectile flies to different places, you have to adjust the fire. In addition, special attention was paid to overcoming trampolines, since when overcoming them, the task of the commander and gunner-operator is to stay firmly inside the combat vehicle, and the driver-mechanic is to technically correctly overcome this obstacle, with the least consequences, " said Sergeant Pavel Batuev, commander of the Russian guard team's combat vehicle.

Further on the distance was overcome by a high-speed section, a slope, a ford, a passage in a mine-explosive barrier, a springboard and a track bridge with a further finish.

"Today, our combat vehicle under my control started first, which imposed a great responsibility. But there was no worry, I worked as expected. Immediately broke away from the pursuers from China, so that the gunner-operator shot calmly, no longer feeling that there are rivals behind. And it was no longer a problem to pass the distance cleanly, without a penalty, " Senior Sergeant Yevgeny Yander, a mechanic-driver of the Russian guard team's combat vehicle, shared after the finish.

Skillful control of the crew of the combat vehicle by its commander, excellent shooting of the gunner-operator, as well as the high-speed and clean passage of the route by the driver-mechanic, allowed the crew to set a new competition record in passing the track with a time of 22 minutes 45 seconds. The team consisted of the commander of the combat vehicle guard Sergeant Pavel Batuev, the gunner-operator guard Lance Corporal Ivan Solovyov and the driver-mechanic guard Senior Sergeant Yevgeny Yandera. Thereby this crew surpassed by almost a minute the result set by the crew of the Russian team under the command guard Junior Sergeant Alexander Karavay, set on the same track on 25 August this year as part of an individual race.

At the end of the relay, the best time was shown by the Russian team, which with a result of 22 minutes and 18 seconds, took first place and also set a new competition record, more than a minute and a half exceeding the previous year's result set here by the Russian team. Paratroopers from Belarus are in second place, 4 minutes and 10 seconds behind the Russians. The third team, with a score of 34 minutes 05 seconds, was the team of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria.

Tomorrow, the closing ceremony of the Competition will take place at the "Zavelichye" training ground of the Pskov guards amphibious assault unit.

Teams from Russia, Guinea and Mozambique fought for the best result in the correct underwater assembly of the flange block using various studs, nuts and gaskets.

During this exercise, the participants had to successively complete 4 elements, consisting of different stages of assembly of one one-piece flange block.

The difficulty of this exercise was that the assembly contains similar elements, but with different diameters, and in one of the elements each bolt has an individual seat, since they are all of different lengths.

To assess the correctness and quality of the divers' underwater work, the flanges of each team were raised from the water to the surface and the judges checked the results.

Military climbers overcame the icy terrain and completed a six-day march around Elbrus

02.09.2020 - 11:38

In the Elbrus region, mountain units completed a six-day 100-kilometer march around Elbrus, thus completing the second stage of the international competition "Elbrus ring" of the Games-2020. During which the contestants overcame the "Ice section of the terrain".

Participants of the competition successfully completed special tasks №10 and №11 "Ice section" in the area of the Bolshoy Azau glacier. Overcoming the ice section (ascent/descent) was organized on an ice slope extending up to 100 m with an average elevation angle of 60 degrees.

During the ascent to the ice section, the first pair of the group laid a route on the ice section, then the entire group moved along the laid route, and the last pair collected equipment from the route.

The descent of military personnel was carried out using a trigger device with a belay (grasping node). The last soldier organizes the system of self-turning of the ice axe and descends on a double rope with a gripping knot, followed by pulling the ropes.

After completing these tasks, all teams descended to the mountain training and survival Center "Terskol", and thus closed the 100-kilometer "Elbrus ring-2020". It was from the Terskol Center that the competitors started their route around the highest peak in Europe on August 27.

"All participants of the march successfully coped with special tasks during the 100-kilometer route, all returned to the base camp without injuries," said the competition judge, CSKA mountain training coach Ivan Dusharin after the finish.

I may be wrong, but as far as I understand, these caps appeared in 2013 (after Shoigu became Minister of Defense in 2012).
I'm happy that Russian women like getting flowers. I sent them to the Russian and Ukrainian ladies I used to correspond with. Most American women used to like flowers also (and many still do), before jewish feminism reared its ugly head.

It appears the larger caps are still part of the dress uniform. I think Shoigu was also responsible for phasing out the foot wraps. I've used those myself, and they work quite well for keeping the feet warm, but socks are much easier to put on.

Probably the income of flower shops has decreased greatly since then

As I understand it, the military now has three types of uniforms:
a) The Ceremonial uniform is used by soldiers during participation in ceremonial events (parades, on military holidays, at ceremonies for receiving military awards, etc.);
b) The Field uniform is used by soldiers during hostilities, on duty, helping civilians during natural disasters, etc .;
c) The Office uniform is used by soldiers in cases other than the first two categories.

That cap about which you asked this (as I understood) the office type.

I disagree with you, Ray

After a couple of months of practice, footcloths are put on very quickly and the process of wrapping does not require any distraction.

When I served in the Russian army, we had one thin summer footcloth and in winter a thick winter footcloth was added to it.

Representatives of the participating teams released white doves into the sky with the wish that the use of weapons on the ground was possible only within the framework of the international Army games.

Despite the intense competition that took place at all stages of the competition, not a single competitor left the "Yeisky" training ground without exchanging gifts and shaking hands with each of their former competitors – they can understand each other like no other, having experienced equal trials and felt the same emotions.

Everyone has a road home ahead of them, but no one wants to exhale and relax. It is necessary to pass on the invaluable experience gained and prepare new teams to participate in the next international Army games.
