Default UFO TV series

Another show from my childhood. UFO (pronounced "yoo-foe") was a British series produced by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson (The Thunderbirds, Space:1999) and originally ran from 1970 to 1973. It portrayed the "future" of 1980 where people wear Nehru jackets, drive DeLorean-type cars and a Moonbase operated by SHADO--Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organisation-- protecting Earth from unnamed aliens attacking the planet in flying saucers. It was a forerunner of Space:1999 which premiered a few years later.

The best part about UFO in my opinion, were the Moonbase girls like Lt. Gay Ellis (Gabrielle Drake) in their purple wigs and silver spandex saying in their sexy British accents, "Yoo-foe approaching, twenty millions miles."

Those Brit babes of the '70s.... My all-time favorite was Felicity Kendal, who played Barbara Good in The Good Life (The Good Neighbours in the U.S.). Imagine my bitter disappointment when I discovered she converted to jewdaism...

Lesley-Anne Down wasn't bad, either.

At the 6:12 mark, you will see Wanda Ventham as Col. Virginia Lake. In real life, she is the mother of Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Sherlock Holmes on Masterpiece Mystery.

The Space: 1999 opening credits/soundtrack made by the same composer from UFO, Barry Gray.

Yeah, too bad I blew up all my Moonbase Alpha Eagle spaceship models with firecrackers when I was a kid emulating what happened on the show because they're collector items today. I don't think Alpha had any Eagles left at the end of the series, they all got destroyed by hostile aliens, accidents, etc.

As a kid I accidentally set the carpet on fire when I was burning a spaceship model with cologne as an accelerant.

Yeah, I remember UFO. I was ten years old when it came on. It was a cool
show. The aliens had some kind of liquid inside their helmets. A group
of UFOs would try to attack the earth and then space ships from earth
would destroy them.

Right, the aliens were harvesting human body parts to keep themselves going. At least they weren't able to do that to the sexy Lt. Ellis. I was a little disappointed when the show ended before more could be found out about the aliens and where they were from. But I always looked on Space: 1999 as a continuation of UFO.
