Man, 45, dies after Acropolis plunge [UPDATE]

A 45-year-old man died of massive head injuries on Thursday a few hours after plunging from the Acropolis Hill, the site of the Parthenon. The unnmamed man fell on the marble bleachers of the ancient Theater of Dionysus, on the southern slopes of the capital's sacred rock. No suicide note was found but the death is not being treated as an accident. There has been a sharp spike in suicides in recent months, most attributed to deepening financial problems stemming from the country's economic crisis.

Protesters clash with police in Greece

THESSALONIKI, Greece, June 28 (UPI) -- A group of Greek Cypriots and Golden Dawn party members trying to enter the Turkish consulate clashed with police in Thessaloniki Thursday, officials said. The Cypriots and the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party were protesting the visit of Devlet Bahceli, leader of the Turkish opposition Nationalist Movement Party, to the city, Hurriyet Daily News reported. Bahceli was in Greece as part of his tour of Balkan countries.

A group of about 60 Cypriot students and 40 members of Golden Dawn gathered in front of the Turkish general consulate to protest the leader's visit. A fight broke out between protesters and police officers protecting the consulate and ended with police firing tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Bahceli left Thessaloniki in the afternoon for Macedonia.

Interesting...

Greece is in pieces, its supposed brothers in Europe have been told by the judenpress it is a worthless, begging piece of shit and now we have "Islamic" problems being stirred.

Nato has doubled its Turkish army from June 2011 to almost 800,000 men and there's an estimated 100 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in the sea that Israel and Cyprus "share".

Greek lawmakers shun extreme right party, leave parliament post vacant

By Associated Press, Updated: Friday, June 29, 9:55 AM

ATHENS, Greece — Greek lawmakers banded together Friday to keep an extreme right-wing party out of the position of deputy parliament speaker, leaving one of the seven posts vacant rather than filling it with a member of a group many consider to be neo-Nazi.

Golden Dawn won 18 of Parliament’s 300 seats in the June 17 [2012] elections, taking nearly 7 percent of the vote and horrifying Greece’s mainstream political establishment. As an opposition party in the seven-party Parliament, Golden Dawn was entitled to field a candidate for the post of one of the seven deputy speakers.

In Friday’s vote, parliament elected six deputy speakers but left the last one empty, as Golden Dawn candidate Polyvios Zisimopoulos failed to receive the minimum 75 votes required for the post. He received 41 votes in the secret ballot — meaning that the party won the support of an extra 23 deputies from outside their ranks.

Golden Dawn described Friday’s result a “constitutional violation” and said it would take its complaint to a European Court.

“This is their notion of democracy and how much they respect the will of half a million Greek voters,” the party said in a statement.

“In practice all the parties of the establishment united, from the liberal center-right to the far left.”

Golden Dawn has been accused of violent attacks against immigrants, and had campaigned on a platform of expelling all immigrants and planting landmines along Greece’s borders. One of its new deputies recently made headlines by striking a female Communist Party candidate three times, and throwing a glass of water over another left-wing party member during a live television political talk show.

The country’s new lawmakers were sworn in on Thursday, as a protracted political crisis that led to two general elections and a series of power-sharing negotiations drew to an end. The uncertainty had roiled international markets, as questions arose about Greece’s ability to implement reforms required for it to continue receiving funds from its international bailout loans — the only thing keeping it from defaulting on its debts.

New Democracy, a conservative party led by Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, has formed a coalition government with longtime socialist rivals PASOK, and the smaller Democratic Left party, which came in just behind Golden Dawn with 6.26 percent of the vote and 17 seats.

As the party with the most seats, New Democracy put forward its own candidate for Speaker. Longtime party member Evangelos Meimarakis, who served as defense minister from 2006-2009, was elected to the post in a morning vote with 223 votes of the 290 deputies present — a record number of votes since the restoration of democracy after the end of the 1967-74 military dictatorship.

It is good to receive information about what is happening there, but from what I see the party in question does not seem to be anything like neo-nazi as their opponents suggest. Evidently it is more of a far right wing conservative party, but definitely not a revival of the national socialists. Communists are actually such, given the fact that they avoid accepting the blessings of the church and the Christian cross in the ceremony of oath to the constitution. Nevertheless, it should also be noted that during that debatable scene, the communist female representatives have been extremely provocative toward that Golden Dawn spokesman, and one of them actually hit him in the face first before he stood up and hit her back. The moderator allowed all that to escalate in this manner besides the requests of the Golden Dawn spokesman for order. It does not serve those that lead the country to such a situation to see the Golden Dawn in the parliament now.

Hi there, I'm the Greek blogger quoted in the article and I just want to clarify two points:

1. We don't vote where we were born but in the place we're "from", which more often than not means the place where our father was registered as a voter. For many of us, this means voting in a remote village instead of our place of residence, which also explains the high abstention rate.

2. There is a special provision in Greek law for people like firemen, policemen, the military etc to vote in their duty station rather than the place where they are normally registered to vote. Belonging to one of these professions is the only situation where you can transfer your voting rights without confronting weeks of bureaucracy. This is why we can know with certainty which polling stations have a high proportion of policemen among registered voters.

Well if the Police are voting for a national socialist party, there has to be a reason for that. Who would know better the reason the country is going to shit and who is responsible than the Police?

I think this idea that ethnic minorities should not be blamed or punished for any reason is counter productive. Cock roaches might have the right to live, But they don't have the right to live in my house. Throwing around Neo Nazi as a Universally bad thing is a bit out dated, and really only Jewish media perpetuates it. After all It isn't the people themselves they are against, it is the things they do. All the rape and theft and living like states within states. Nobody wants a group of gang bangers living in there neighborhood doing things there own way. And if you tolerate it as most countries do. You end up like Greece. Drowning in Multicultural hell. Everything you once held important about your country and its culture is being thrown in the trash by the new neighbors. So you either accept defeat and become a parasite yourself. or you do something about it. Unfortunately everyone tolerates it until drastic measures are needed. Drastic measures are not pretty. But then again neither were all the years it took to get to that point. its unfortunate but if you want to maintain a lifestyle and culture, you cannot let other cultures integrate to the point that your culture is no longer recognizable. Unless of course you see nothing wrong with a country's long held way of living be torn down and destroyed.

My grandmothers neighborhood for instance use to be a beautiful place with nearly no crime. Over the last 30 years immigration of Hispanics and Asians and Russians and all kinds of different people happened. It was accepted and celebrated to a degree. But now its not a place you would want to live. Tons of crime. Its not like this is a unique case either. it can happen to a town and it can happen to an entire country. I guess you just have to decide weather you prefer multiculturalism and all the crime and cultural head butting that will result. Or fight against it. And if you accept Multiculturalism just remember that you are at a disadvantage because most of the immigrants that will move in are a lot more use to dog eat dog than you are.

Don't get me wrong, Im not saying exterminate the minorities. But Deportation of illegals at least is not so unreasonable. stricter laws about proper conduct and national pride. I don't know about you but its pretty annoying to see minorities acting like the country they live in is shit, the people who have been there forever are shit, and wherever they came from is the greatest place on earth. And then proceed to make where they are living more and more like where they moved away from in the first place.

Christos Papageorgiou i guess for you it was ok when left wing anarchists who support SYRIZA & KKE threw a Molotov cocktail into the Marfin bank in May2010 and killed 3 people who burnt to death one of which was a woman with an unborn child and i suppose its ok that the Stalininst KKE is in parliment even though Stalin killed over 20 million of his own people and Approximately 30,000 of those where Pontian Greeks but I guess in your case its only considered to be violence when its committed by the Golden Dawn. By the way the most antisemitic people I've ever met are left wing Greeks who always blame the jews for all the troubles of world. Your ex Greek Navy Admiral grandfather should be rolling around in his grave because of what the generation of the Polytechniou have done to Greece and not because of the Golden dawn and you can throw around all the verbal abuse, insults and the same old regurgitated lies all you want its not going to change the fact that Greece is ruined, people are suffering and that the Golden Dawn had nothing to with it.

Whether a high percentage of the police vote for Golden Dawn in reality is a secondary issue: we are talking of a few thousand votes out of about 450,000 that extremist party received in the last election in Greece.

The fact is that the state has failed to fulfill its most basic obligation, viz. to provide for economic and physical security; in fact the last two governments, i.e. the one led by conservative Karamanlis till 2009, and the Socialist one led by George Papandreou, appeared unwilling or unable to protect entire neighborhoods from crime (ranging from petty theft, to robbery, rape and murder).

Indeed, the police were systematically undercut in their role of providing protection because of various politically correct arguments, and were often accused of a range of charges familiar to those of us who lived in New York between 1975 and 1990, i.e. police brutality and the like. For this reason their leadership effectively withdrew them from much of Athens center, creating a security vacuum.

The security vacuum was exploited by all manner of organized and random criminality, much of it carried out by illegal aliens, of whom there are hundreds of thousands, often living in miserable circumstances. In addition, political rioting, generally organized by anarchists, other leftists allied with organized criminals, using foreigners to destroy and to loot stores and other establishments, have added to the misery. Anarchists allied with organized crime burned over 40-50 major buildings in Athens and looted and destroyed hundreds of small businesses in February 2012 rioting; the police was ordered not to intervene by a pathetic head of an agency with the Orwellian title "Ministry for the Protection of the Citizen."

In this climate of insecurity, where the weak and the old were left unprotected, there formed vigilante gangs, of which Golden Dawn is the most prominent. Its imbecilic rhetoric aside, the reason it received these votes was that it offered tangible security, something the state was unable or unwilling to do. A grandmother in a poor neighborhood could go to the ATM, get cash and go shopping, accompanied by a couple of (often armed) men provided by Golden Dawn, and return home safely. All manner of people (of all political inclinations from left to right) in poor, unprotected neighborhoods, have told the undersigned, and many others who have bothered to go and find out, that Golden Dawn was the only entity that allowed them to live normally and not be afraid.

I believe that once the state resumes what is its first duty, i.e. to provide physical and financial security, groups such as Golden Dawn will wither away. In the process, that state will also learn to place value of the work and the risks taken by those it has charged with providing security, and they in turn will not feel alienated and spurned and will thus not vote for marginal movements with deranged ideologies...

[socialist view of Golden Dawn and its meaning]

Greece's far right rears its head

Shaun Harkin reports on the success of the openly Nazi Golden Dawn party in Greece--and why the growing resistance to austerity is the key to stopping the fascists.

June 20, 2012

FOLLOWING AN international scare campaign claiming that a victory for Greece's Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA, according to its initials in Greek) in national elections on June 17 would push Greece, Europe and possibly the world economy over a cliff, the center-right pro-austerity party New Democracy emerged as slim winners.

The vote for SYRIZA was still massive at 26.9 percent of the vote, and should give confidence to everyone in Europe and elsewhere organizing for social justice. The result reflects sharpening working class determination, driven by deep bitterness, to fight for an alternative to austerity and immiseration. Across Europe, the mood and pattern is similar.

Simultaneously, however, the depth of the social crisis has led to a growth in support for populist far right--and in some cases openly fascist--political forces.

In France, for example, the fascist National Front led by Marine Le Pen received 6.4 million votes, or 17.9 percent, in the first round of presidential elections in April--its biggest share of the vote ever. The final voting in parliamentary elections last weekend gave the National Front its first seats since 1998.

In Greece, where political paralysis and economic crisis have their tightest grips, the far right emerged with a strong result in this year's election, though not on the scale of the left. This makes it essential to understand why far-right parties like Greece's neo-Nazi Golden Dawn are winning support in Europe's austerity-torn countries.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

DESCRIBED IN mainstream media outlets like the Guardian as "Europe's most fanatical neo-Nazi party," Golden Dawn campaigned on the theme "Let's rid this country of the stench." Its platform called for the immediate deportation of 1 million immigrants, landmines on the border with Turkey to deter migration, and ending the austerity measures imposed on Greece as a condition of the European Union's (EU) financial bailouts.

Though its result was overshadowed by SYRIZA's stunning second-place finish, Golden Dawn won over 440,000 votes in the first elections held in May, nearly 7 percent of the total. Disturbingly, reports indicate that almost half of the Athens police force and one-fifth of lower middle class shopkeepers voted Golden Dawn.

In the second set of national elections on June 17, Golden Dawn won nearly as many votes for 6.9 percent of the total. The party will have 18 seats in the new parliament, out of a total of 300. This for a party that got a paltry 0.23 percent of the vote in the last national elections in 2009.

With New Democracy appealing for right-wing votes on the basis of stopping SYRIZA from winning the second set of elections, analysts predicted Golden Dawn's vote would decrease. But the results showed the fascists more or less maintained high votes in the same districts where they did well in May.

That Golden Dawn was able to maintain its newfound support is an indication of the depth of political polarization in Greece: the crisis is so acute and the situation so volatile and uncertain that this scourge of humanity will continue to pose a serious threat as long as the situation drags on.

Golden Dawn, of course, has been emboldened, viewing its vote as an endorsement of its message and violent attacks on immigrants. Taking advantage of the new media attention, party leader Nikolaos Michaloliakos boldly took the opportunity to spew a denial of the Holocaust in May, claiming, "There were no ovens--this is a lie...There were no gas chambers either."

Golden Dawn members deny they are a neo-Nazi organization, describing themselves as simply "ultra-nationalist.' The legacy of Nazi Germany and fascist Italy has forced many sympathizers with Mussolini and Hitler to rebrand their politics, seeking a respectable image that obscures their historic political heritage.

However, Golden Dawn, unlike most other euro-fascists, operates without much of a veneer. The party's press regularly runs articles praising Hitler, and Mein Kampf and other white supremacist propaganda is available at its offices. Golden Dawn's thug members have shaved heads and give Nazi-style salutes, and the party emblem closely resembles a swastika.

At a press conference following the May 6 election, Michaloliakos greeted the audience with a Nazi salute, warning those who "betrayed the motherland" to be scared and ranting, "We will continue our struggle for a free Greece, free from foreign loan sharks and a Greece that is independent and proud, without the slavery of the bailout...We will struggle for a Greece that is not a social jungle because of the millions of immigrants they brought here without asking us."

In the weeks leading up to the June 17 election, Golden Dawn members led an attack on immigrants temporarily sleeping in an abandoned factory, and they organized a torch-lit 2,000-person march through central Athens, chanting "Foreigners out of Greece!" In Athens, there are now daily attacks on immigrants by racists, fascists and also the police.

And at an election rally, a leader of Golden Dawn who will serve in the next parliament, Ilias Panagiotaros, warned that Golden Dawn would "carry out raids on hospitals and kindergartens, and it will throw immigrants and their children out on the street so that Greeks can take their place."

During a live television studio interview, Golden Dawn spokesperson Ilias Kasidiaris, a former military commander and martial arts expert, attacked two members of parliament--Liana Kanelli of the Greek Communist Party and Rena Dourou of SYRIZA. Kanelli was slapped on the face three times by Kasidiaris before he fled the studio and the building. This so-called "politician" is also charged with stabbing a student in 2007, but the trial has been repeatedly delayed.

This is not aimless theatre. With desperation, anxiety and anger running high in Greek society, Golden Dawn's shocking actions are geared toward demonstrating by deed that it will bring "law and order" by fearlessly cracking down. Where others have failed, Golden Dawn threatens to act with an iron fist.

The fascists have no chance of winning anywhere near a majority of the Greek population, but they can provide confidence and encouragement for hard-core racists to act on their hatred--and draw those initially attracted to Golden Dawn as a protest vote against the failure of the mainstream parties closer to their active ranks. Golden Dawn's goal is to legitimize its message and gain acceptability for violence against immigrants and others targeted as obstacles to the glorious Greek nation.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

GOLDEN DAWN was officially formed in 1985 after Michaloliakos split away from the far-right National Political Union.

In 1976 Michaloliakos was jailed for attacking journalists covering the funeral of a police officer who tortured prisoners during the Greek military dictatorship that reigned between 1967 and 1974. In prison, he met with leaders of the dictatorship and went on to become a Special Forces commando. Michaloliakos had Golden Dawn officially registered as a political party in 1993--it won its first political representation in 2010, when he was elected to the Athens City Council.

Golden Dawn has employed classic fascist tactics to promote itself: terrorist gangs organizing on the streets alongside official election campaigns to gain legitimacy. The party gained notoriety in 1991 when its members attacked Albanian immigrants. In 1995, volunteers from the group participated in the Srebrenica massacre of 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys during the Balkan wars.

Golden Dawn members have physically targeted the left, as well as journalists who dare criticize them. They organize and recruit through white power music concerts and the "Blue Army" group of soccer hooligans.

Promoting anti-immigrant hatred is central to Golden Dawn's warped political message. In the late 1980s, the collapse of Stalinist regimes of Eastern Europe led to a mass migration into Greece from Albania and Bulgaria, and later the former Yugoslavia. From the 1990s on, migrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, Iraq, Iran and elsewhere came to Greece often fleeing war and poverty.

One important factor in attracting immigrants to come and work for low wages is Greece's aging population. Overall, estimates put the percentage of immigrants, documented and undocumented, in Greece today at between 10-15 percent of the total population of around 11 million.

Frontex, the European Union agency for border security, claims that border crossings of undocumented immigrants into Greece more than tripled in 2010--according to analysts, 90 percent of undocumented immigrants throughout Europe arrived initially over the Greece-Turkey border.

But the reason the Greece-Turkey border has become an entry point into the EU is because other European countries, especially Italy, Spain and France, have severely restricted access, forcing African, Pakistani, Afghani and other migrants to travel through Greece. The vast majority of migrants plan to travel beyond Greece to countries where there is a better prospect of finding employment, but many run out of money and end up stuck in downtown Athens. Those without documents who are detained in Greece face appalling conditions in a decrepit and overcrowded detention system.

Greece is a participant in the Schengen Agreement, which created a borderless zone among 26 European countries with 400 million residents. But the agreement requires signatory countries to increase border security against people from non-EU states. Locked out of the EU's border liberalization are millions of migrants from developing countries in Asia, Africa and the Middle East--many of them former European colonies--who are escaping war and the devastating consequences of neoliberal economic policies.

The twin processes of legal movement among EU states and undocumented migration from non-EU regions has been utilized effectively by European bosses to drive down wages and weaken working-class organization across the continent.

Meanwhile, immigration has become a central issue for fascists and the far right as they attempt to hook an audience that will blame the loss of dignity and stability in their own conditions on immigrants, particularly Muslim immigrants. Like in the U.S., the far right blames immigrants for "stealing" jobs and social services and generally taking over from native-born citizens.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

THIS VILE scapegoating has gotten a hearing because of the depths of the Greek economic crisis. After several years of the debt crisis, unemployment stood at 22.6 percent for the first three months of the year, a little more than double the rage for the whole Eurozone. Among those between the age of 15 and 24 years, joblessness is around half. Overall, the Greek economy has shrunk by at least 16 percent since 2008.

Those who still have work have experienced drastic wage cuts, pension cuts and endless new regressive taxes and charges. Social services have been shredded at a time when many more workers must apply for social welfare benefits. Thousands are homeless in Athens and forced to scavenge for food. Parents have been forced to give up their children to adoption agencies because they are unable to provide for them. As the Guardian reported, summing up the country's shambles of a health care system:

Medical supplies and beds at some hospitals are running desperately short. The governor of the state-run Nikea hospital, Theodoros Roupas, called on doctors to stop non-essential surgical interventions because of a critical shortage of gloves, syringes and gauze. The order was revoked when Roupas found emergency supplies later in the day.

Yet in the midst of this misery, little has changed for Greece's super-rich who benefited most from economic policies that brought on catastrophe. Instead, they have deepened the crisis, accounting for the lion's share of the $20 billion withdrawn by domestic depositors from Greek banks since 2009.

Meanwhile, Greece's mainstream parties have fueled the anti-immigrant hysteria that created fertile ground for the far-right menace to fester.

Antonis Samaras, leader of the main conservative party, New Democracy, pledged during the lead-up to the June election that his government would crack down on "crime" by introducing tougher border patrols, speeding up expulsions of the undocumented and changing a law granting residency to the children of undocumented parents.

PASOK, the dominant center-left party for the past four decades, which led the government that agreed to drastic austerity over the past several years, has also embraced immigrant-bashing.

PASOK ministers have described migrants in Athens as a "hygienic time bomb." PASOK leader Michalis Chrysochoidis, the current "minister for citizen protection" until a new government takes over, announced plans to build 30 new detention centers to house 30,000 undocumented immigrants. In early February, the PASOK Minister for Public Order Christos Papoutsis travelled to a town on Greece's border with Turkey to announce the construction of a 6-mile-long, 13-foot-high fence, at a cost of tens of millions of dollars.

Following the May election, a government spokesperson condemned Golden Dawn's Holocaust denial, but by pandering to racism and adopting harsh anti-immigrant policies, the mainstream parties have reinforced what the fascists argue, legitimizing their hateful rhetoric and violent attacks. Every step rightward by the mainstream parties has encouraged the far right to push harder and take bolder initiatives, such as organizing vigilante attacks in broad daylight and terrorizing women and left-wing activists on national television.

This has been the experience far beyond Greece, as well: By normalizing the dehumanization of those who are systematically scapegoated, racism from the top prepares the ground for the far right to win greater support and take action.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

ULTIMATELY, THE social and economic crisis, the human misery and the prominence of the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn pit bull in Greece are all products of capitalism--not just the result of corrupt politicians or unregulated banks.

The Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky argued that fascism feeding on the margins of economic despair was much more than an ideology of racist hatred or the brute force of right-wing terrorists. He described the rise of fascism in the 1930s as a potential "razor in the hands of the class enemy":

At the moment that the "normal" police and military resources of the bourgeois dictatorship, together with their parliamentary screens, no longer suffice to hold society in a state of equilibrium--the turn of the fascist regime arrives. Through the fascist agency, capitalism sets in motion the masses of the crazed petty bourgeoisie and the bands of declassed and demoralized lumpenproletariat; all the countless human beings whom finance capital itself has brought to desperation and frenzy.

Thus, the fascists, with their violent, anti-democratic methods, are a tool of the ruling classes when they face intransigent working class opposition to their policies.

Greek workers have experienced many forms violent right-wing rule over the last 80 years--the Nazi occupation in the 1940s; a civil war directed against the left, sponsored by the U.S. and Britain between 1946 and 1949; and a military dictatorship between 1967 and 1974.

Before that, there was Ioannis Metaxas, the 1930s dictator who looked to Mussolini's Italy as a model--he is a Golden Dawn hero. Faced with widespread working class unrest and growing support for the Communist Party, Greece's King George II appointed Metaxas prime minister in 1936. His "4th of August Regime" declared a national state of emergency, suspending parliament, banning political parties, prohibiting strikes and introducing widespread censorship. The Communists were outlawed and their members persecuted, imprisoned and murdered.

Golden Dawn is still much smaller than the left in Greece. The hundreds of thousands of votes cast for SYRIZA and the left are a rejection of both the pro-austerity mainstream parties and the hateful message of Golden Dawn. Crucially, in recent weeks, thousands of people have poured into streets in response to Golden Dawn attacks--activists say they will build a new anti-fascist movement in every school, workplace, neighborhood and city.

Tens of thousands of people are committed to exposing the far right's racist lies and confronting their violence. The bosses' program of working class immiseration has been politically rejected--and the fascist "movement of despair" can be stopped before it can be used by Europe's rulers as a weapon against the working class.

There is nothing inevitable about the continued growth of neo-Nazis and the far right in Greece or in Europe. The secret to their success is their facade of democratic respectability and their use of fear and hate to build support. The key to defeating them is a unified working class movement and the struggle for a European-wide socialist alternative, centered on control of society by the vast majority. 1

'Nazi' far right lurks in dawn of new Greece
by: Peter Wilson, Europe Correspondent

The Australian June 23, 2012

New Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, left third, with newly appointed cabinet ministers as they leave the Presidential palace in Athens after the swearing-in yesterday.

GREECE regained some political normalcy yesterday with the appointment of a new coalition government but MPs and voters are only now coming to terms with a disturbing new feature on their political landscape.

There was a time when articles appearing in the news section didn't include opinion masquerading as news, i.e., the 'disturbing,' which is purely the opinion of the writer, and has no place in a genuine news article.

In the past seven weeks the far-right party Golden Dawn has entered parliament for the first time and then, in a second election that was called to break a coalition impasse, consolidated its position to emerge as the most blatantly "neo-Nazi" party to enjoy such success in post-war Europe.

In parts of central Athens, gangs of black-shirted party members now "patrol" the streets at night and they have been accused of almost daily attacks on the city's large population of unregistered immigrants.

Nationalist parties are surging in many parts of Europe on the back of economic disruption, heavy immigration and resentment at the EU's intrusion into national affairs but Golden Dawn is in a different category from parties such as Marine Le Pen's National Front in France. He's the first junkstream analyst I've seen acknowledge this fundamental point, which is lost on most racialists because they think important distinctions don't matter, leading them to welcome WHINOs like Jared Taylor and functional conservatives like the A3P into their ranks as though they were the real thing.

"Golden Dawn is in some ways an exception to the broader European pattern of radical right parties," says Matthew Goodwin, an expert on the far-right at the University of Nottingham. "It is a more extreme and openly neo-Nazi party, that denies the Holocaust and engages in acts of violence, whereas most successful radical right parties downplay these aspects". Golden Dawn does the opposite of everything the self-described "high-roaders" advise American WN to do - and it wins. Be careful who you take your advice from.

The National Front, for instance, enjoyed its own more modest success in parliamentary elections last weekend but only after a determined effort by Ms Le Pen to soften the party's reliance on open racism.

With an increasingly nuanced message, Ms Le Pen has set the tone for the modern far-right parties of Scandinavia, Britain and the rest of Western Europe by broadening her focus from the anti-Semitism that obsessed her father, Jean-Marie, into education, jobs, the need for Muslim immigrants to "better integrate" into French society, and other issues that can appeal to younger voters. Ms Le Pen's strategy is to poach supporters from the main centre-right party with the aim of becoming France's dominant conservative voice. That's called throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Golden Dawn claims to be merely a "patriotic party of nationalism" and threatens to sue any journalist who calls it "neo-Nazi" but there are plenty of clues as to whether that label is fair.

The party uses a Swastika-like emblem, holds torch-lit rallies, sells books on Aryan supremacy and advocates annexing part of Albania and adding it to "the fatherland".

Its members give Nazi salutes and chant the Hitler Youth motto "Blood and Honour", and their leader, Nikos Michaloliakos, has denied the Holocaust. One of its election policies was to plant landmines along the Turkish border to keep out what it calls the "scum" flooding into Greece.

While Australia, which has twice the population of Greece, has political crises if more than a few thousand people a year land on its shores without approval, Greece last year recorded 57,000 people trying to enter it illegally, and is believed to have more than 350,000 unregistered immigrants. Out of a total population of 11 million.

At the 2009 national election Golden Dawn received just 0.29 per cent, or less than 20,000 votes. The collapse of the political centre in last month's election, when the economic crisis and decades of political corruption saw voters desert the country's traditional ruling parties, produced a surge for Golden Dawn to 6.97 per cent, or more than 440,000 votes.

"It was a protest vote, a one-off show of anger," a confident Pasok MP told this reporter as the country prepared for last Sunday's repeat election.

Golden Dawn did slump in the polls after the May 6 election, and when Ilias Kasidiaris, an elected MP and Golden Dawn's official spokesman, slapped a female MP during a TV debate on June 7 the conventional wisdom was that the party had shown its true colours and would be abandoned by horrified voters. Mr Kasidiaris was unrepentant, telling a rally: "I have heard it said, from coffee shops to social media sites, why don't we send Kasidiaris to talk to (German Chancellor Angela) Merkel?"

Other minor parties lost support in the re-run election, with the communists losing 14 of their 26 MPs but Golden Dawn shocked most pollsters by holding firm at 6.92 per cent and retaining 18 of the 21 MPs it had won in the 300-seat parliament.

One strong showing may have been an aberration but a second looked like a political shift.

Mr Kasidiaris actually had a rise of support in his district and pollsters said his on-air assault had attracted support for the party. Willingness to fight back physically always leads to increased support. Unwillingness or inability to fight an enemy physically will always be taken as weakness by potential supporters.

Dr Goodwin believes that support will ebb when the economy improves and the crime situation "is normalised". "It appears distinctly unlikely that Golden Dawn will sustain support over the longer term, or achieve a wider breakthrough, not least because the brand that it is offering Greek voters is one that is becoming increasingly socially unacceptable across Europe," he said. The opposite seems more likely. The problems aren't going away, and Golden Dawn is a harbinger of similarly serious parties arising in other European lands.

Others disagree. Ramon Pacheco Pardo, who teaches European politics at Kings College in London, said it was "wishful thinking that they will go away".

"They won't win power but they could be in parliament for a long time. If there is not a sharp recovery in the next couple of years Greece will have more unemployment and more people will turn against immigrants."

Greece is likely to face a decade of austerity. Golden Dawn's success last week means it will be strengthened by €3.5 million ($4.3m) in public funding, and the EU's decision to race towards more integration will provoke nationalist backlashes across the continent.

Recent Greek election proves populists can counter globalists

By Pete Papaherakles

Despite a worldwide smear campaign against it, Greece’s nationalist Golden Dawn party managed a strong turnout in the June 17 elections and actually moved up a notch in popularity. Their vote share remained at 7% proving that, even with all the fear mongering and attacks, Greeks were not deterred.

Of significance is the fact that Golden Dawn supporters have gone from an estimated 20K in ’09 to as many as 430K today, amounting to a twentyfold increase in three years. This huge trend is impossible to ignore, demonstrating that nationalism is a growing force the globalists just cannot stop.

The pro-bailout conservative New Democracy Party (ND) barely edged a win in the elections. ND leaders quickly announced they had formed a coalition government that would keep Greece anchored with the euro and pay back international bankers, who have saddled the country with crushing debt.

The Greek people have heard these same empty promises about sacrifices repeatedly for over two years. Many find themselves in soup lines.

The Greek economy has contracted 30%, and unemployment has soared to 23%, twice the Eurozone average. Greece also went from the lowest suicide rate in all of Europe two years ago to the highest today with the rate increasing 40% since last year. More than 2,500 Greeks have killed themselves since the crisis started in 2010. The promised prosperity is nowhere in sight as the standard of living is approaching Third World levels.

The main goal of the bankers has been to keep Greece in the euro currency and under their economic domination. When they felt that they were losing their grip after the last elections they used the media to terrorize the public about the horrors a bankruptcy and a euro exit would bring.

The four parties opposed to the bailout now represent 45% of the total Greek vote. This is the first time that opposition parties have had such a strong voice in Parliament.

As a result, it will not be easy for the ruling government to do as it pleases. Golden Dawn members have made it clear they will come down hard on any member of Parliament who tries to push through brutal austerity plans that further strangle the Greeks.

[ho-hum article from The Daily Beast, which is the usual garbage from a queer and some jews. But again, notice that, just as we saw on the Atlantic article, the commenters openly refer to jewish media control. How long can the cover that's come off in Greece be kept on elsewhere?]

Golden Dawn’s Violent War Against Immigrants in Greece
by Barbie Latza Nadeau Jun 19, 2012

The neo-Nazi party had a strong showing in Greek elections, winning a staggering 7 percent of the vote. Barbie Latza Nadeau on Golden Dawn’s violent campaign to force out immigrants.

The smell of urine and sweat, simmering in 90-degree heat, wafts through an open window like poisonous perfume. A half-full plastic water bottle balances on the ledge below a dirty mesh curtain tied in a knot. More than 20 illegal immigrants live behind the window, in the four-bedroom apartment on Filis street in central Athens, sleeping in shifts to share the beds. They pay what they can, and are forced to give up their bed when someone can pay more. “It’s better than the street,” says a man when asked what it’s like inside. A few blocks up, the doors are half-open with bare lightbulbs above them. When the light is on, it means the brothels inside are open. Women of all ethnicities and ages peer from the windows. This is not the Athens that tourists flock to. But it is home to roughly 1 million estimated illegal immigrants who live and work in the city.

Being an immigrant—illegal or not—has become a risky way of life in Athens. Since May 6, when Greeks gave voice to extremist neo-Nazi anti-immigration party Golden Dawn, attacks on immigrants have doubled. On May 31, an Albanian man standing on the street in Athens’s Neos Kosmos neighborhood was stabbed with a sword by a masked motorcycle driver. Paramedics had to remove several ribs to dislodge the sword, which pierced his chest and was left sticking out of his back.

The same night, 20 minutes later, two Polish men were stabbed with knives in the same part of town. The next day men from Bangladesh and Pakistan were stabbed in the city’s subway stations. “Things have gotten worse since the elections,” Reza Gholami, who heads an association for immigrants from Afghanistan, told Greek Kathimerini newspaper after the May 6 election. “There are daily beatings.”

You people must be Americans or Jews to speak like that. I say Americans because you people are so brainwashed that you believe everything the Jewish controlled media tells you. One you have never stepped foot in Greece but yet you make remarks that Greeks are lazy and so on. How would you know this. Did you visit Greece? Of course not because you can't afford it. Greeks in America are hard working and successful. Look it up. The media (Jew) portrays them as lazy because the Greek people support a political group who wants the immigrants out of Greece that commit crimes and more. They don't belong in Greece. It's a Christian country not a muslim one. The Greeks complain why is Israel allowed to close its borders and not accept anyone who is Jewish but Greece can't and gets penalized by the Jewish controlled media. A big hypocrisy of you ask me. The Jews are the nazis who are racist and control main stream media.

I am European-American and not under the control of jews. Yes many people in America are brainwash into believeing everything the media says, since the media is 95% jewish. In Europe you guys have the problem with muslims but here in America we have problems from every corner like mexicans, asians, and now muslims we are getting hit hard and it seems like no one cares. But of course like you said Israel "Jews" can force Interracial bans, kill anyone that doesn't agree with them, build walls and force immigrants out. But if we did that they would call us racist. I believe in self determination in their respective borders. Hail the Golden Dawn!

[communist view]

Greece: the rise of the Golden Dawn fascists

29 June, 2012

Author: Theodora Polenta

These are the election results for the neo-Nazi movement Golden Dawn in Greece.

• National Elections 2009: 0.29% (19,636 votes)

• European Elections 2009: 0.46% ( 23,564 votes)

• Athens Elections 2010: 5.29% (10,222 votes)

• National Elections May 2012: 6.97% (441,018 votes)

• National Elections June 2012: 6.92% (425,980 votes)

The general shift of the Greek people to the left was reaffirmed in the June 2012 elections, where Syriza scored almost 27% and the combined electoral percentage of the left reached almost 40%.

But that was not all. The “Independent Greeks” have established themselves as a force of the anti-memorandum right, gaining over 10% in the May election and stabilizing at 7.5% in June elections. Counterposed to the formation of a left pole in the Greek society is the formation of an ultra-right pole.

To the left pole belong the majority of the working class and the youth. To the right pole belong some capitalists and others from the higher layers of the Greek society. It is common knowledge that ND [Greek equivalent of the Tories] employ Golden Dawn members in its security team. The bulk of the ultra-right electorate are scared petty bourgeois, well-off pensioners, and farmers who want to hang on to their small properties and their euro bank deposits.

The hard core of Golden Dawn are young people who are permanently unemployed, from what is termed the lumpenproletariat.

Golden Dawn has built some base in deprived, ghettoised and marginalised neighbourhoods and ghost cities, where refugees, immigrants, and marginalised sections of the working class have been left to rot. Golden Dawn’s electoral results were partly a product of that work in neighbourhoods of Athens. However, many Golden Dawn voters live in remote rural areas of Greece where there are no “foreigners”.

How can these commies always be on the side of the workers and of the invaders? That's a contradiction that cannot be resolved. The working class are the last people who want a bunch of unskilled or semi-skilled muds coming into their neighborhoods. The lower-end whites have a hard enough time keeping their act in order; mud invasion makes it, in many places, impossible. If businesses can't find enough employees at a given wage rate, then they must raise pay until they find people. Not use non-citizens. If Greece or the U.S. were a real country, the people running it would give thought to protecting the nation rather than putting the nation in service of whichever class manages to capture it through lobbying. But as always, remember what MacDonald said in his essay: there was basically no pressure except jews that opened our borders. It is a big lie repeated by fools that it was business driving the alien invasion. Business only came along after the ruling jews had basically forced affirmative action and globalization on anyone seeking to do business in the U.S. or with the federal government.

After the May election, the stance of both Synaspismos (the main component of Syriza) and KKE could be summed up as follows: People voted for Golden Dawn to express their anger against the memorandum and the political establishment; but the vote did not express an acceptance and endorsement of racist and fascist politics.

That assessment was partly refuted by 17 June. Between May and June Golden Dawn’s openly Nazi character was amply exposed. Golden Dawn people attacked students and ordinary people who do not look like their standard of the Aryan race; organised a massive armed attack on refugees in Patra exploiting the murder of a Greek young man by an immigrant.

Golden Dawn activists broke into the political offices of SEK [Greek group linked to the SWP in Britain]. They sent death threats to veteran leftist Manolis Glezos, and threatened councillors from the left coalition Antarsya and prominent leaders of the anti-racist anti-fascist movement.

Don't know if this is true, but interesting if so. Communists are known for lying and exaggerating where they don't lie.

Videos have been released on YouTube of scooter battalions of Golden Dawn approaching isolated immigrants, stabbing them or racially abusing them. Golden Dawn has expanded its targets from the “foreigners and dark skinned” to white Greek homosexuals; it has distributed leaflets describing lesbians and gays as a “foreign”, “abnormal” part of Greek society.

One Golden Dawn spokesman called on people to treat immigrants in the same way that the citizens’ movement in Keratea got rid of the rubbish dumped in their area.

A Golden Dawn candidate pledged to create armed battalions to kick African and Asian immigrants out of the hospitals that are hospitalized for free, as opposed to the Greek patients that have to pay. He pledged to organise groups of people to ensure that the public kindergartens and nurseries are free from “dark skinned” babies and toddlers.

In June, Golden Dawn got its 7% not despite the fact that it was exposed as a Nazi gang, but because of its provocative behaviour.

Very interesting - the communists agree with my analysis.

One third of Golden Dawn’s May voters switched, but they were replaced by racist and possibly fascist voters from the older-established far-right movement Laos, whose percentage plummeted from 2.9% in May to 1.5% in June. In June as in May, over 50% of the police force voted for Golden Dawn.

People join the winning tendency, it's human nature. Everyone with 'normal' attitudes will follow whichever tendency appears to be the most serious, when it comes to the problems we talk about all the time. If there were a real WN party in America, it would suck people away from basically everything white and to the right of Obama, including Fox News and the Republican Party and even the Ron Paul movement.

Humans are animals, and animals settle disputes by bluffing and violence. If you don't like that fact, blame God. It the conceit of many an -ism that beliefs and ideas trump physical reality. It is not so.

During the last two years, with some exceptions on the revolutionary left and the various immigrant and refugee organisations, the left has done little about forming a front to confront the emerging fascist-racist threat in the streets, in the neighbourhood, in the workplaces, and in every section of the Greek society.

On 7 June, on TV, Golden Dawn MP Ilias Kasidiaris threw water at a Syriza woman MP and slapped a KKE woman MP. Protest demonstrations were organised on 8 June; but there was no central call from Syriza or KKE to participate, though members from both parties did come. When Golden Dawn exploited the assassination of a young Greek by an immigrant in Patras, mobilising Nazi thugs from Athens to attack an abandoned factory where refugees were living, neither Syriza nor KKE in Patras made any initiative.

Since May KKE [the diehard-Stalinist Greek Communist Party] has begun to acknowledge the threat from Golden Dawn. But KKE’s polemic against Golden Dawn is mostly restricted to the pages of its paper Rizospastis, and all the articles in Rizospastis focus on the historical role of Nazism during World War Two and the Greek resistance, led by members of the Communist Party.

The latest statement by Syriza leader Alexis Tsipras, calling on all parliamentary parties to deal with the threat to parliamentary democracy posed by Golden Dawn, exposes a lack of understanding of fascism and the way to confront it. Golden Dawn in power would dissolve parliament and all the remnants of parliamentary democracy, but the bourgeois parliamentary bourgeois parties of Pasok and ND do not want to and cannot lead the fight against fascism and racism.

The last act of the Papademos coalition government was to pass a law for the construction of 31 concentration camps for “illegal” immigrants.

This was the mark of a government that did not hesitate to form a coalition with the openly racist Laos party of Georgios Karatzaferis and put in the cabinet the fascist MPs Boridis and Georgiadis.

Pasok cabinet minister Xrisochoidis (citizen protection) declared that illegal immigrants were responsible for most crimes and that law and order was the major concern of the Greek people.. Health minister Loverdos, also Pasok, said that illegal immigrants should be put in separate units in the hospitals and all immigrants from certain countries should be put in quarantine.

Athens mayor Giorgos Kaminis started a crusade to “reinvigorate and reconstruct” the centre of Athens — police storming immigrant areas with the aim of deporting as many as possible. Antonis Samaras emphasised ND’s commitment to act against “illegal immigrants”. “The Greek toddlers and kids should be given priority in kindergartens over the children of immigrants in kindergartens”, he said.

Although the mainstream political world condemned the public display of violence in the TV attack by a Golden Dawn representative on women from Syriza and KKE, Samaras said that the violence of the Golden Dawn was only the counterpart of the “violence of the Left”. Thanos Plevris, a ND and ex-Laos MP, declared that Antarsya is the equivalent of the Golden Dawn on the left.

Pasok leader Evangelos Venizelos declared: “The violence, the tension, the jeering, the counter demonstrations were not brought into civilian life by [leaders] of Golden Dawn. They came from the left...”

In each city and neighbourhood, local people and immigrants must take the initiative to establish anti-fascist committees. A powerful anti-fascist front is a necessity in order to defend our struggles to come in defence of our wages, jobs, pensions.

The main duties of the revolutionary left should be the following:

1. To take the initiative in building united fronts able to smash the developing fascist movement ideologically, politically, and physically, in the streets.

2. To build anti-fascist committees in every town and every neighbourhood that embrace political organisations, social organisations and institutions, cultural and sports associations, refugee and immigrant organisations and collectives, and particularly trade unions.

3. Rank and file trade union activists should link anti-fascist and anti-racist actions their industrial struggle. Particular emphasis should be placed upon the trade-union journalists and media workers, who have a duty to counter-inform the Greek public and expose Golden Dawn.

4. In every neighbourhood the trade unions, alongside the neighbourhood committees, should form popular defence squads and solidarity squads aiming at solving the social problems via solidarity and cooperation, the establishment of a sense of safety within the neighbourhoods, and the self-defence against the fascist thugs.

5. To link the call for the formation of workers’ defence squads with workplace organisations, mass strikes, occupations, democratic organisation of neighbourhood committees, in short, the a mass movement that aims for the most extensive democracy.

The committees should avoid links with groups of so-called anti-authoritarians who, when referring to anti-fascist committees, understand small groups that will act as saviours of the working class and immigrants by chasing the fascists.

6. Systematic and persistent campaigns, around the schools, in the squares, door to door, etc., combined with the creation of defence squads and with the basic motto “Fascists out of our neighbourhoods, our schools, our parliament”.

7. The anti-fascist committees must at the same time to address social problems created by the crisis and poverty and by the ghettoising and dumping of all immigrants in the most deprived areas. They must fight for decent accommodation, food, education, etc., for all economic and political refugees and for all locals.

Notice how the locals come after the aliens, as an afterthought. That's communism for you.

8. Fight for a program of transitional demands based upon workers’ self-management and control and the social planning of the economy to meet the needs of the people and not for the profits of a handful of capitalist parasites.

If the workers were capable of self-management they'd be managers, not workers. That's what happens in practice, anyway. Communism is nothing more than another failed attempt to impose ideology on reality.

9. The left must give an internationalist response to the crisis. As long as Greece remains under the dictatorship of the Troika and big capital, racism will develop and fascism will be “available on request”. Fight alongside the European working class for the overthrow of the capitalism and the establishment of the United Socialist States of Europe.

The communists seem to want the same thing the EU and the NWO do: the dissolution of discrete states, racial mongrelization, and top-down bureaucratic tyranny over every last tittle of daily life.

Due to the change in the left political landscape, a particular responsibility lies on Syriza to initiate a united front and mobilise its members to fight against the threat of Golden Dawn.

Why spend time on Golden Dawn? Because, as far as I can see, it's the only legitimate nationalist party in the world, at least for whites.

The Workers' Liberty article is typical Trot crap.

On the one hand, they purport to oppose the exploitation of workers by the "ruling class"; on the other, they openly facilitate a mass-immigration policy which exists only to serve the "ruling class". If they hate capitalists so much, they might want to think twice about supporting immigration policies that benefit rich jews and white traitors at the expense of the working class.

At least Stalin generally kept national borders alive with the development of "socialism in one country". He'd have sent these Trotskyist retards to the Gulag or the firing squad.

I like this sentence:

Quote:

This ignores an accurate statement made in one of the earlier articles: "in this climate of insecurity, where the weak and the old were left unprotected, there formed vigilante gangs, of which Golden Dawn is the most prominent [..] the reason it received these votes was that it offered tangible security, something the state was unable or unwilling to do."

Golden Dawn have already formed "defence squads aiming at solving the social problems", and people appreciate them for doing so. What these reds really mean is that Greeks should form an "immigrant and faggot defence squad", in order to make it as difficult as possible for Golden Dawn to scare off criminal invaders. It's as though the Frankfurt kikes' ideas about cultural subversion have become so pronounced among the Western European far-left that economics (the historical core of communism) has been reduced to an irrelevant side issue. These people care more about the immigrant underclass than the working class.

Very good thinking on the above post. As one of my Frog correspondents has pointed out, immigration has become the new state religion in Europe. To oppose it is like denying the Virgin Birth and subjects you to the stake. When the government breaks down, all immigrants are going to wind up dead. They will be the first and handiest culprits. The immigrant lovers will be the next targets.

In Greece, anti-immigrant Golden Dawn party rides wave of xenophobia

Published on Friday June 29, 2012

Supporters of Golden Dawn, the virulently anti-immigrant far-right party whose logo is a modified swastika celebrate winning 18 seats in Parliament in June 2012.

ATHENS—He doesn’t walk alone.

Not to his convenience store in the morning. Not to his apartment at night. Not anymore. When Tipu Sultan Mirza Mohamed moves, three or four fellow immigrants from Bangladesh move with him.

Protection.

The Bangladeshis of Athens now travel in packs because the thugs travel in packs. In the last month, supporters of Golden Dawn, the virulently anti-immigrant far-right party whose logo is a modified swastika, have beaten, among many others, an Egyptian fisherman sleeping on his roof, two Algerians sleeping near a beach, a Pakistani man and Bangladeshi man walking in a subway station, and an Albanian standing on the street.

None of this — nor an assault this month by a Golden Dawn MP on a Communist female MP on live television — has appeared to do anything to dampen the party’s popularity. After Golden Dawn earned 6.97 per cent of the vote in the May federal election, up from 0.23 per cent in 2009, some leftists dismissively argued that this was a one-time protest statement. But Golden Dawn got 6.92 per cent in the election on June 17.

The party, which uses slogans like “rid this land of filth,” was a fringe movement from its founding in 1980 until three years ago. Then came the economic crisis that sent unemployment skyrocketing to 23 per cent and forced Greece to submit to other European countries’ humbling austerity demands. Next, under ideal breeding conditions for ultranationalism and fascism, came the wave of xenophobia and violence that has Mohamed and his compatriots living in fear.

“Nobody here safe now,” Mohamed, 42, said in halting English, the day after the election in his store in the poor immigrant neighbourhood of Omonia. “Nobody. When I come here in 2004, I go alone to the square in the night, nobody stop me. Now in the day I’m afraid to go alone. They come to me, they ask, ‘Why you come here? When you go back to your home? Why don’t you leave?’ I don’t know why they ask this. We are in Europe. Europe is human rights. Where go human rights? Where? If I can’t walk on the road, where go human rights?”

He doesn’t look like a brown shirt. In fact, he wears a blue-collared shirt that says PepsiCo above the breast pocket. The 40-year-old man, who says he can’t give his name because of his job, is a well-coiffed Pepsi salesman in stylish jeans. He is also an enthusiastic supporter of Golden Dawn.

The attacks on immigrants? “I’m not sure if what the media says is 100 per cent true, but even if it is, this has an impact on the immigrants. They’re more afraid. So things are more calm, and there is less violence against Greeks. If the police isn’t doing its job, someone else has to.” Slapping another politician repeatedly on TV? “What people took from that was that Golden Dawn will do the same thing to the entire political system.”

Golden Dawn’s vehement stand against the country’s bailout agreements — its 55-year-old leader, Nikos Michaloliakos, calls them “slavery” — appeals to the same anger against austerity and old-guard politicians that has propelled the sudden rise of a new leftist party, Syriza. Like many extremist parties, Golden Dawn is especially popular with young men. Half of the country’s under-25 population is unemployed; Golden Dawn offers poor youths with few prospects an easy scapegoat for their financial troubles, a social institution in which they can feel important, and a salve for their wounded national pride.

“Local guys can’t go to the square because of the immigrants. They’re scared,” said Stavros Tsouis, 18, a house painter and Golden Dawn supporter in the Athens suburb of Markopoulo, which has also seen an immigrant influx. “If other parties cannot get rid of them, there is no other way. It (violence) is not a proper way, of course, but . . . ” He trailed off. “I’m thinking of my 7-year-old brother and his future.”

The Pepsi salesman sat under a cafe tent last Wednesday in the Athens neighbourhood of Agios Panteleimonas. The neighbourhood, known as such for the grand Orthodox church of the same name, has become a hotbed of anti-immigrant sentiment and Golden Dawn support. The church’s priest provides food and guidance to hundreds of the poor illegal immigrants who live in the dingy apartment buildings nearby. In apparent retaliation, Golden Dawn loyalists wrote a party slogan — “Foreigners out of Greece. Greece belongs to the Greeks” — in chalk in front of the church steps. They have also locked the gate to the playground on the church grounds to prevent immigrant children from using it.

A local senior, who also wouldn’t give her name, said Golden Dawn members have endeared themselves to neighbourhood Greeks by volunteering to accompany the elderly on their errands. Before then, she said, they were regularly robbed by South Asians. A major spike in immigrant crime has aided Golden Dawn’s rise. The problem of immigrant crime, in turn, has been fuelled by both the economic crisis and Greece’s dysfunctional immigration system.

An EU agreement allows countries to send illegal immigrants back to the first European country they set foot in — which is Greece more than 50 per cent of the time, because it offers a land crossing through Turkey. Greek political leaders, joined by human rights groups, have complained bitterly about their disproportionate burden. They have also failed to unilaterally solve the problems they have the power to address

Greece, a country of 11 million, grants refugee status to almost nobody: 11 of 15,928 claimants in 2009. It also provides almost no support to new arrivals, many of whom live in squalid conditions, and takes years to process refugee claims; there is a backlog of more than 30,000. Without documents, Human Rights Watch has reported, immigrants “spend a great deal of time unemployed or in exploitative work situations,” have little contact with Greeks, and “often live in dire poverty with inadequate food, health care and shelter.”

The vast majority of Greece’s million-plus immigrants were Albanians until four years ago, when the Turkish crossing overtook the boat routes to Italy and Spain as the most popular gateway to Europe. Tens of thousands of unskilled, non-Greek-speaking Africans, South Asians and Arabs have since made their way to Athens. Just as the economy collapsed, swaths of the city that had seen few non-white residents for centuries became ghettos for dark-skinned Muslims. Few of the new arrivals have experienced anything but misery.

Hali Sip, a lanky 26-year-old former youth soccer player from Senegal, is one of dozens of Africans who try to sell knock-off clothing, luggage, sunglasses, watches and trinkets on the sidewalk outside the Athens University of Economics and Business. His visible inventory consists of four bags. As of last Tuesday, he had not had a customer in a week. To pay the rent, he said, he also collects discarded bottles to return for a wretched €1 per kilogram.

He came to Greece in pursuit of “the European dream”: “To become somebody, to become a man, somebody who is respected. “ He would now return to Senegal if he could afford it.

“Dying in Africa is better than dying here,” he said. “Because we fled death there, and we came here, and there’s death here, too. It’s better to die back there with dignity.”

Hundreds of Africans used to hawk their wares outside another university down the block from the business school. In May, a month before the election, the chaotic improvised market, which had undercut and infuriated established shopkeepers, was shut down by riot police. Bored-looking officers with shields and helmets now patrol the empty street three hours a day. Asked last Tuesday if the crackdown was political, one of them said, “Obviously political.”

The former socialist government launched a United Nations-aided immigration reform effort in 2010. But the socialists, too, have since attempted to capitalize on anti-immigrant resentment — issuing warnings about foreign prostitutes, approving a 12.5-kilometre fence on the Turkish border and campaigning on a pledge to build 30 new detention centres. New Democracy, the centre-right party that won, talked even tougher, pledging to repeal a 2010 law that allows the children of illegal immigrants to obtain citizenship. And Golden Dawn now has 18 seats in parliament.

Greek election: Conservatives win election, vow to keep Greece in the eurozone

The party promised to plant landmines along the border with Turkey, deport all illegal immigrants, and conduct raids on hospitals and kindergartens to forcibly evict immigrant children. Though it denies that it is a neo-Nazi party — the Nazis occupied Greece during World War II — its members make Nazi salutes at rallies, Mein Kampf has been displayed at its headquarters, and its leader, Michaloliakos, denies the Holocaust.

“Golden Dawn is not another political party. This is an openly neo-Nazi party, a fascist party, and in the long term it will have grave consequences on Greece, on its society, and on its image abroad. Democracy is based on tolerance for the other,” said Sotiris Methenitis, the centre-right mayor of Markopoulo, who issued an unusual pre-election plea “begging” constituents to vote for anyone else.

“In Greek mythology, the most important god, Zeus, was the protector of the foreign. Greece has a long history of paying particular attention to the significance of the foreign person coming here. He has to be treated with respect. This has been a feature of modern Greece. Up to very recently.”

Sip’s group of African peddlers keeps wooden sticks and jagged chunks of tile at the ready, tucked in beside the university gate, in case racists show up looking for trouble. Shopkeeper Mohamed watches his back and thinks about returning to Bangladesh. Neither thinks Golden Dawn is going away. Neither does Golden Dawn.

“The time for fear has come for those who betrayed this homeland,” Michaloliakos said to conclude his post-election speech in May. “We are coming! That’s all I have to say.”

That's right. It makes me wonder what precisely is the relation between the commies and the NWO/EU types. I mean, it was 100 years ago that the communist theory that the working classes would support their class above their nation was disproven by WWI. And it's the same today.

It must be kept in the front of the mind that the commies are internationalists, not nationalists. So a Greek is Greek to them, all they understand is the class schema set up by Marx.

Yep, well said. The commies continue not to be interested in the actual views of the people they think they represent. That's what ideology is. An insane ideology goes nowhere if it relies on persuasion, that's why commies have always focused on criminalizing and murdering opposition, it's the only way they can succeed.

Why don't the papers run long stories lovingly detailing the experience of old women getting beaten up and robbed by Somali and Bangladeshi aliens as they try to go about the simple business of going about town?

The controlled media always try to bring out the human side of the aliens, while ignoring the human side of those victimized by them.

Judeo-media view: jews open borders. Turd World aliens flood in. Aliens beat/rape/rob/murder locals. Locals get angry. Jewsmedia call locals hate-filled extremists and nazis.

"Why spend time on Golden Dawn? Because, as far as I can see, it's the only legitimate nationalist party in the world, at least for whites."

And there is a 'bipartisan effort' to fight the Greek people. No doubt International BigJew, Inc. has opened the vaults, forking over the necessary capital.
