Thumbs up The Topkapi Palace

Topkapi Palace

This the Topkapi Palace (means 'Cannongate Palace') in Constantinople. It was for almost 500 years the headquarters and primary residence of the Ottoman Empire. In this palace settled every Ottoman Sultan. The Ottomans, took many great treasures from every corner of the Empire and put it in this palace, knowing that there will come one day that the Empire should fall and all those treasure will be lost. The Topkapi Palace is with his architecture and glamour from inside, one of the most beautiful buildings around the Islamic World.

Quote:
The Topkapı Palace is among those monuments belonging to the "Historic Areas of Istanbul", which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985, and is described as "an unmatched assemblage of buildings constructed over four centuries, unique for the architectural quality of its individual buildings as well as their organization that reflects the social disposition of the Ottoman Court".

Dutch architect, Cornelius Duplicius de Schepper in 1533:

Quote:
“ The Emperor was seated on a slightly elevated throne completely covered with gold cloth, replete and strewn with numerous precious stones, and there were on all sides many cushions of inestimable value; the walls of the chamber were covered with mosaic works spangled with azure and gold; the exterior of the fireplace of this chamber of solid silver and covered with gold, and at one side of the chamber from a fountain water gushed forth from a wall."

The Spoonmakers diamond:

On the list of the 22 worlds greatest diamonds, 86 carats and pear-shaped. The forty nine separate brilliants surround it, giving it the appearance of a full moon lighting a bright and shining sky amidst the stars. The French Imperium stole it from the Great Maharadja of India. It was even in Napoleon's hands, on his campaign in Egypt he gaved it to the Ottomans in exchange for his freedom.

The map of Piri Reis

The map, which is drawn on parchment in colour, was executed by the Turkish geographer Piri Reis, a renowned cartographer of the 16th century. The map shows part of Europe and west coast of Africa, and eastern, central and south America, the Atlantic islands, and the ocean. A great deal of detail is given in South America. This map is in fact only the western section of the world drawn by Piri Reis and presented to Selim I in Cairo in 1517. It was prepared in Gallipoli. Piri Reis' map is the oldest known map which includes the continent of America.

The throne of Nadir Shah, 18th century.

Irano-Indian. This throne was presented by the Shah of Iran to Mahmud I (1730-1754). Gold, precious stones and enamel embellish the throne.

The Weapons of the Prophet Muhammad

His two swords and his bow. Almost everything of the Prophet (from his tooth until his footstep and gravesoil) can be find in this Palace.

(There is so much more, like Ottoman weapons and sacred relics and other stuff, but I will post that tomorrow.)
