Harry and Meghan release statement on Kate's shock cancer diagnosis: 'We wish her health and healing'

Harry and Meghan today said they are wishing the Princess of Wales 'health and healing' after she announced her shock cancer diagnosis.

'We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace,' the couple said in a brief statement to Harper's Bazaar.

It remains unclear if Harry will return to the UK, as he did after King Charles' cancer diagnosis.

Kate announced her diagnosis in a video message today, explaining that the cancer was discovered after her abdominal surgery.

'The surgery was successful, however, tests after the operation found that cancer had been present.

'As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment.

Harry and Meghan last week denied a statement that had been attributed to sources within their camp that claimed Meghan would have been 'annihilated' for photo-shopping an image, as Kate was accused of.

The pair denied that such a remark - as reported by Page Six - had come from their team.

They have not publicly addressed the speculation surrounding Kate's health, or the cruel conspiracy theories that dominated late-night shows in America and whipped up online trolls.

Last week, the pair launched their latest business venture - American Riviera Orchard - at the height of the furor.

The brand will sell items like homemade jam.

Kate Middleton’s woes cast a spotlight on Jewish Sassoon family’s Chinese history

UPDATE: On Friday, a day after this story’s publication, Kate Middleton released a video disclosing that she had been diagnosed with cancer.

(JTA) — Internet sleuths scouring photographs to understand the befuddling tumult in Britain’s royal family believe they have solved a different mystery: what happened to artifacts taken from China during the Qing Dynasty.

Their conclusion, in turn, is drawing renewed attention to the imperial spoils of one of the wealthiest and most influential Jewish families in history.

A wide range of theories are now being promulgated about Middleton’s disappearance, which comes while King Charles III has stepped out of public life after a cancer diagnosis. The theories range from the prosaic to the frightening to the utterly fanciful, but several popular ones are connected to the belief that Prince William is having an affair with Rose Hanbury, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley and Middleton’s onetime friend. (Through an attorney, Rose has denied the allegations.)

This is where Jewish history comes in. Hanbury’s husband David, the Marquess of Cholmondeley, is the grandson of Sybil Sassoon — a member of the influential Baghdadi Jewish family and also a member of the Rothschilds, the prominent Jewish banking family.

Born in London in 1894 to a father who was born in Bombay (now Mumbai) and a French mother from the Rothschild family, Sassoon was part of a generation of very affluent Jews who transitioned from achieving remarkable success in British society despite antisemitism to integrating completely into its most rarefied echelons. Sassoon married George Cholmondeley, Earl of Rocksavage, when she was 19, bore him three children and, when she died in 1989, was buried in a church on the grounds of their estate, Houghton Hall.

Rose and David live in Houghton Hall today, surrounded in part by the design choices made by his grandmother. Sassoon, an avid art collector, was known for restoring the Cholmondeley estate to its former glory. David, too, made headlines more recently by revamping the estate’s public gardens. And this week, with Rose squarely in the internet’s sights, the interior of the estate returned to public view when royals-watchers discovered photographs from 2013 and 2016 featuring the couple and their lushly decorated home.

The decor, Chinese internet users quickly realized, includes furniture and art from the Qing Dynasty, China’s last imperial dynasty, which reigned from 1644 to 1912.

The Sassoon family’s ties to China were long and complicated. After Britain forced the flow of opium into China in the 19th century, during what are known as the Opium Wars, the Sassoon family became the dominant trader sending the narcotic from India to China. Victor Sassoon, who lived from 1881 to 1961, shifted much of the family’s wealth to Shanghai, where he was both crucial to the city’s modern development and to its role as a haven for Jews during the Holocaust.

A recent flurry of attention to the family, sometimes referred to as “the Rothschilds of the East,” included uneven scrutiny of the family’s role in the international opium trade. A museum exhibit in New York City, for example, focused almost entirely on the art and artifacts, including ornate Judaica, that the family collected and gave little mention to the opium trade.

Many of the items collected by the family have made their way subsequently to museums, including the British Museum. But Chinese internet sleuths speculated that the items on display at Houghton Hall also came from their country.

Whether the items were purchased legally or were, as some have alleged, “pillaged” is impossible to know. The Sassoons’ wealth meant they likely commissioned works from Chinese artisans in addition to acquiring antiques. Still, the Sassoons were active in China during what is known as the “Century of Humiliation,” when foreign powers controlled China and wide swaths of art were stolen.

King Charles recently underwent several medical tests and was diagnosed with cancer. Believers in the predictions of the French prophet Nostradamus claimed that he foresaw the king's abdication 450 years ago, shortly after inheriting the crown from his mother.

Numerologist Ifat Orlov, who specializes in Kabbalistic and Western numerology, strengthens Nostradamus's assertion that it will not be the Prince of Wales, Prince William, who will fill his father's place, but rather a man "who had no sign of a king," referring to Prince Harry.

Orlov says, "King Charles III was born on November 14, 1948, and his Destiny Number is 2. He sits on the card of the Empress and the Yesod HaAish according to the Tree of Life. Although he does not outwardly portray it, the king is very sensitive and internalizes things to an extreme. According to his numerology, his mental state directly affects his physical well-being. The pressure of being crowned king and stepping into Queen Elizabeth II's shoes has affected his health and caused him high levels of stress and anxiety. His diagnosis goes beyond the prostate and extends to the urinary tract, blood vessels, lymph nodes, and blood sugar level balance - and I am sure that over the years he has had other sensitivities that have been treated and are still being monitored.

This next year is crucial for King Charles's overall health. Orlov recommends the king relinquish control for at least nine months, focus only on healing, and give his sons the authority they deserve. If the king learns to take care of himself over this next year and can allow himself to rely on others for help, he can improve his health. Since his numerological DNA is not as strong as he projects it to be, I would take his doctors' recommendations very seriously.

So is Middleton Jewish? This speculation has led to a series of investigations, some more bizarre than others, but all seeking to uncover the truth behind the Princesses' ancestry.

In a notably odd twist, the Iranian news agency Mehr claimed in 2013 that Middleton was indeed Jewish, suggesting her marriage to Prince William was part of a cover-up. This sensational claim from the agency, known for its outlandish reports, was met with widespread skepticism.

"The truth is that the Royal Family’s new bride is a Jew," Mehr wrote in 2013. "Although in the wedding ceremony it was pretended that Kate Middleton is Christian but this lady’s family roots show that she is considered a Sephardic Jew from her mother’s side. Moreover the timing of the wedding and the way it was held which was based on Jewish culture verify the evidences," Mehr claimed.

"Kate’s mother was surnamed Goldsmith before marrying Kate’s father. According to Jewish laws if a mother is a Jew, her children will be Jews, too. Therefore Kate Middleton is a Sephardic Jew and her children will be Jews based on the Jewish law," the report said.
