Default My DNA or ancestry results

Alright,

Hello, everyone. I am American from New York (we have lots of Jews here) :

Anyway, I decided to introduce myself by showing my ancestry and how white or non-white I am and to show I'm not a Jew. I am also going to Geek up this section a bit as it needs it with Geeky modern DNA analysis.

I did AncestryDNA and not 23andme because it is run by Jews. I was able to do a lot cool stuff with the raw data from AncestryDNA.

AncestryDNA is saying I am 52% 'Irish" 37% British and 6% Scandinavian and like 1% or less Finnish the rest is likely statistical noise. Anything less than 1% on these tests cannot be taken seriously as it may be statistical noise. So, if you are like less than 1% Jewish or Amerindian or whatever on these tests you can take it with a grain of salt.

A few words, first, about AncestryDNA. It's 'Irish' category really means Broadly celtic and encompasses parts of Scotland and Wales. It's 'British' category is really 'English' but extends to the Netherlands etc..



Now, myheritage.com agrees with AncestryDNA broadly but differs in the percentages :



It says I am :

40.1% English

35.7% Irish, Scottish and Welsh

22.5% Scandinavian

and it says 1.7 central Asian. I dunno where that central Asian comes from but DNA.land says I am 1.8% Oceanian so it could be that or I am part Germanic from Alsace-Lorraine France (but these tests are picking it up as Norman/Saxon input, from Britain, rather than continental 'German') so it maybe it is from Ghengis Khan and the Huns ? I have no clue. It could also really be Oceanian from the British empire days. AncestryDNA has me as less than 1% these things and anything less than 1% could be statistic noise.

So, anyway what is one to do when one gets none clear results like the above ? GEDmatch is a good tool.

Since, I have mixed ancestry the four ancestor mode is the one to really look at. So let us look at it :

Anything 5 and below you can probably pass as a native of that population. So even though I am American I could pass as Celtic Briton, though, my heritage is technically Celto-Germanic rather than just 'Celtic'.

Another, thing to notice is my distance from that population, which is small, the average F(st) distance from any random population is 15. What jumps out at me is myheritage is saying that I am 1.7% Central Asian and DNA.land is saying 1.8% Oceanian so the 1.857162 distance from that ethnic mixture seems to confirm this.

Now, there are other GEDmatch calculators that are way off and some that are closer than others. I find Dodecad v3 and 2 of the MDLP calculators to be pretty good. What GEDmatch calculators are good for you will be idiosyncratic and based on your ancestry.

Notice, the bold, again, 1.8... distance . This is not that bad of a calculator. I am of mixed ancestry so the single population mode is not what to look at per se but the four way.

Actually, what is interesting is in the two population mode it actually picks up my south German ancestry from Alsace-Lorraine unlike the commercial DNA tests.

Let us look at the four way number one result :

1 CEU_ + Irish_ + Irish_ + North_German_ @ 1.867592

So Alsace-Lorraine is Central Europe (CEU), I am about half Irish which agrees with AncestryDNA. So what about the North German ? I think the calculator is extracting the Germanic from the South German, British Saxon and Scandinavian (via the way of Scotland) then lumping it into North German. So overall not a bad calculator but also not perfect. None of these calculators are perfect that is why it is helpful to know your ancestry. If you are adopted it is not so easy. Even though these GEDmatch calculators are not perfect they still offer a superior analysis of your autosomal DNA over 23andme, AncestryDNA, myheritage, FTDNA etc..

So my purpose here was three fold :

1.) Show how 'white' I am and that I am not a Jew

2.) To introduce myself , although , I admit these may be an unorthodox Geeky way to do it

3.) To DNA Geek up this section and maybe teach you guys how to use these tools a bit.
