Default Anti-ZOG fghter Russell “Texas” Bentley

Since 2014 the US citizen Russell Bentley (call sign — Texas) is fighting against the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Donbass. The 57-year-old man managed to previously serve in the US Army, participate in the fight against Mexican drug barons, and also to stay in prison for the illegal storage of marijuana. “Gazeta.ru” talked to Bentley and learned why he doesn’t want to come back to the US, how a woman could make him be communist, and where he first of all found himself on the way to Donbass.

Why did you decide to leave the US and go to fight in distant Ukraine?

“I was affected by two events: the burning of people alive in Odessa and the scary video footage of the aftermath of an airstrike by the Air Force of Ukraine on the administration building of the Lugansk region are imprinted in me. I decided that after all this I must simply arrive in Donbass and punish the ‘punishers’. And so I arrived. Although, of course, these events are rather the reason for my participation in this war. The reason is that I am a communist and anti-fascist. Among those who today fight against the DPR there are real fascists. So I arrived to defend Donbass from fascism of the 21st century.”

How did you reach Donetsk? Did you manage to use the airport?

“No, at that moment the so-called ‘cyborgs’ (the Ukrainian servicemen defending the airport from units of the self-proclaimed DPR) were already there. So I arrived through Rostov-on-Don. On the road, however, I stopped by in Volgograd to lay flowers at a monument to defenders of Stalingrad during World War II. After that I went precisely to the Donetsk airport where I fought up to the moment that the Ukrainians were fought off by fighters of ‘Sparta’.”

And did have any previous experience of military service?

“Yes, I served for three years – from 1981 to 1984 – in the Armed Forces of the US. I am a sapper in military specialty. During service I had some combat experience against Mexican criminal groups that are engaged in drug and weapons trafficking.”

What Soviet weapons did you use during military operations in Donbass, and what did you like about them?

“In my life I shot a lot of things in general. But in terms of combat experience I can say here that I liked most of all the Kalashnikov of the sample of 1947 and the RPG-7 grenade launcher. I still very much like the Makarov pistol. It’s a reliable weapon, with rather a powerful punch and provides quite acceptable firing accuracy. It is enough for self-defense.”

In what units of DPR have you served in?

“I was in the ‘Vostok’ battalion and after that I went into the special purpose battalion ‘Han’. As a part of these units I participated in military operations at the airport of Donetsk, and also near the settlement Spartak, near Avdeevka, and Yasinovataya.”

Did you manage to meet anyone from the famous commanders of units of the DPR during the time that you fought in Donbass?

“Yes, I was acquainted with Givi and Motorola, although I can’t say that I knew them closely. Both of them were very capable commanders.”

How did it turn out that you became a supporter of communist ideology?

“It happened after I went to Cuba in 1995. There I fell under the influence of local communists. However, even before this leftist ideas were close to me, I called myself a ‘socialist’. Then I became a communist after my very interesting discussion with one woman – a captain of the Cuban army. She explained to me that ‘a communist’ is someone who is ready to fight for the arrival of socialism. I told to her: ‘Then I am a communist’. And I have been like that ever since.”

What world leaders of the left movement do you consider as important figures for world history?

“My idol is Che Guevara. Also I consider that Lenin, Stalin, Ho Chi Minh, and Võ Nguyên Giáp (the commander of the army of Northern Vietnam in the war against the US) deserve respect.”

What do you think – why don’t communist ideas enjoy wide popularity in the US?

“Because in the United States people have an extremely incorrect idea about what communism is and what it stands for. It happened because Americans in their majority are ignorant and incorrectly imagine the essence of this ideology.”

It can be read in the American press that you were in the places of imprisonment on the territory of the US. It is true?

“Yes, I did five years for illegal storage of marijuana.”

So are you for the legalization of this drug?

“You see it is possible to do food, clothes, paper, and even fuel of hemp. Besides this, earlier it widely used in medicine, and in some American states hemp is again used for this purpose. Therefore I am a consecutive supporter of the legalization of marijuana for industrial and medical purposes. Thus I don’t support the use of this plant as a drug.”

And now you continue to fight or are you engaged in something else?

“No, now I am a correspondent of the local news agency ‘Red Spring’, and also I deliver humanitarian aid to the DPR. In this work I cooperate with several organizations. But I am ready to defend the people of this Republic by all means that are necessary.”

In what language do you communicate in the DPR?

“In Russian, although so far it leaves a lot to be desired, well, and sometimes in English. I also understand German and Spanish.”

Do you plan to come back to the US?

“Only if sitting at the controls of a T-72 tank. Now I have a passport of the DPR, besides this, here I found my beloved and married her, so now my house is in Donbass.”

The Minsk Agreements demand that foreign military personnel and citizens who are taking part in military operations leave the conflict zone in the east of Ukraine. Does it means that you, after all, will leave?

“I will remain here until our full victory or until I die. Now it is my home, I am a citizen of the DPR. I defended my new motherland with arms, and nobody will force me to leave.”
