It would be neat if there was some site on the internet where they tracked these vogueisms and, most important, gave us their etymology. I'm always interested in where these media-popularized locutions like 'dark' and 'edgy' actually originated. Probably hard to track them down, but at some point politics plays into their popularization. If I were a scientist, I would study this stuff, try to work out models of linguistic coining and spreading.

Yes, word origins are very interesting to me as well.

What I cannot stand about this verbal diarrhea is the way the boobs hear it on televitz and mindlessly start using it themselves. "I was, like, in a dark place back in da day...." No discrimination or originality in their attempts at communication whatsoever.

For most Americans, the natural thing to say is “Climb down off of [pronounced “offa”] that horse, Tex, with your hands in the air”; but many UK authorities urge that the “of” should be omitted as redundant. Where British English reigns you may want to omit the “of” as superfluous, but common usage in the US has rendered “off of” so standard as to generally pass unnoticed, though some American authorities also discourage it in formal writing. But if “onto” makes sense, so does “off of.” However, “off of” meaning “from” in phrases like “borrow five dollars off of Clarice” is definitely nonstandard.

Question

Is closure even a real word?
I don't recall ever seeing it in print, in any context, before this century.

You can still do it. Write a book about it. Its easier than being a scientist and you can get just as much recognition.

Agreed. "Panties" is the only way to refer to women's frilly drawers that sounds appropriately feminine. The British term "knickers" is almost as drab as "underwear".

Besides who the hell asked for some broad's opinion on the proper terminology for the lacy unmentionables worn by ladies.
