Default Prominent Greek bishop blames ‘Zionist monster’ for same-sex cohabitation bill

Quote:
ATHENS, Greece (JTA) — A leading Greek bishop has blamed the “Zionist monster” for new legislation that would give same-sex couples in Greece expanded civil rights.

Bishop Seraphim of Piraeus said the cohabitation bill is a result of the “constant war against the true faith” being waged “by the international Zionist monster,” which he said controls the Greek government.

In a statement on the website of the Metropolis of Piraeus, the bishop also threatened to sever relations with any Greek lawmaker who supports the bill when it comes to a vote on Tuesday, saying it subverts

human sexuality and is destroying the traditional family unit.

The bishop has a long history of making antisemitic comments. In 2010, he told a Greek TV station that Jews had orchestrated the Holocaust and were behind Greece’s financial crisis. He later clarified that these

were his personal opinions and did not represent the Church of Greece.

Under the bill, Greek same-sex couples who sign a cohabitation agreement would receive the same favorable tax status as married heterosexual couples as well as increased inheritance rights.

While the bill is highly unpopular in Greece, the Parliament could face European Court of Justice sanctions for discrimination if it does not pass the measure to meet European Union standards.

Antisemitic stereotypes are widespread in Greek public and political discourse.

A recent Anti-Defamation League survey showed that Greece has Europe’s highest rate of antisemitic attitudes, with 69 percent of Greeks espousing antisemitic views.

Default Greece to legalise same-sex marriage and adoption, says PM

Greece to legalise same-sex marriage and adoption, says PM

Kyriakos Mitsotakis said he would not force party discipline on his MPs in relation to legislation towards marriage equality.

Greece will legalise marriage and adoption by same-sex couples, the country's prime minister has said, but gave no timeframe on the taboo issue in the staunchly Orthodox Christian state. "We will legislate equality in marriage," Kyriakos Mitsotakis told state TV ERT. But he added: "I want the discussion to mature in society before I submit a proposal to the cabinet." The bill is expected to split Mr Mitsotakis's conservative New Democracy party, with fewer than 100 of the party's 158 MPs likely to support it according to reports. Mr Mitsotakis said he would not force party discipline on his MPs, and noted that they could abstain from the parliamentary vote.

A key obstacle on same-sex issues in Greece has been the long-standing opposition of the Orthodox Church of Greece, which wields significant influence in the country's society and politics. In December, the governing body of the Church issued a circular to dioceses that strongly condemned same-sex marriage and adoption. "Children are not pets or accessories," it said. "No social modernisation and no political correctness can trick the natural need of children for a father and a mother," it added.

Under the Greek constitution, single parents regardless of gender have been allowed to adopt since 1946 - but until now the second partner in a same-sex union was left out.

Under the previous leftist Syriza government, Greece in 2015 legalised civil unions for same-sex couples, becoming one of the last countries in the European Union to grant approval. That law had resolved property and inheritance issues, but made no provision for the adoption of children.

An opinion poll by Greek pollsters Alco for private TV Alpha this week showed that 49% of Greeks disagree with legalising same-sex marriage, with 35% in favour. Among New Democracy voters, negative feeling is close to 60%. In November, a Pew Research poll found 49% of Greeks opposed the move, with 48% in favour.

Nearly 40 countries, or less than a fifth of the United Nation's 193 member states, allow same-sex couples to adopt, according to the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA).

In the EU, 15 states have legalised same-sex marriage and 16 permit adoption.

ALL EU leaders are bought and told what to do.

Soros's Open Borders will buy the result if it's put to a referendum.

Dare you imagine the future these globalist 'tyrants' are planning for humanity.
