The Anti-Defamation League called on the Fox News host Tucker Carlson to resign in an open letter published on Friday, accusing him of giving “an impassioned defense of the white supremacist ‘great replacement theory.’”

Mr. Carlson, in an appearance on Fox News on Thursday, referred scornfully to the term “white replacement theory,” which describes a racist conspiracy theory popular in far-right circles, while arguing that the Democratic Party was “trying to replace the current electorate, the voters now casting ballots, with new people, more obedient voters, from the third world.” He added that naturalized citizens were “diluting” the political power of him and other Americans.

“Everyone wants to make a racial issue out of it, ‘Ooh, the white replacement theory,’” Mr. Carlson went on. “No, no, no, this is a voting rights question. I have less political power because they are importing a brand-new electorate. Why should I sit back and take that? The power that I have as an American, guaranteed at birth, is one man, one vote. The A.D.L. letter, signed by Jonathan A. Greenblatt, the Jewish advocacy group’s chief executive, said that the language by Mr. Carlson “was not just a dog whistle to racists — it was a bullhorn.”

Afghan Migrants Arrested in Sweden Suspected of Plotting Terror Attack

The Swedish security police Säpo arrested two Afghans, a man and a woman, during the Easter holiday on suspicion of plotting a terror attack in Stockholm county.

Säpo announced the arrests earlier this week, saying that they took place on the morning of Good Friday following a police operation in the Stockholm region.

The suspects were described as Afghan nationals in their 30s who are said to be a couple living together and were registered in a municipality north of the city of Stockholm itself, Dagens Nyheter reports.

According to the newspaper, police suspected an imminent terrorist attack, but it is believed the couple had allegedly been planning the event since January 2nd.

In a statement, the Croatian interior ministry reportedly told the Guardian that there wasn’t a single piece of evidence to support the "persistent portrayal of the Croatian police as a brutal and inhumane group prone to robberies and abuse of illegal migrants." They added that the police were in fact engaged in "humane acts of saving the lives of migrants by pulling them out of minefields, ravines, rescuing them from drowning, carrying them for miles through snowstorms."

The statement concluded that the Croatian police displayed an "organized and professional approach in the protection of the state border and the external border of the EU, but above all, dedication and humanity."

Bosnia: COVID-19 infections rising in migrant camps

Migrants and refugees in Bosnian camps are becoming infected with COVID-19 at an increasing rate. Humanitarian workers say most cases are mild and the situation is "under control."

Sporadic cases of coronavirus infections among migrants have been reported since the start of the pandemic, but the current outbreak in the camps is the worst so far, and several facilities have been quarantined.

Over the past two weeks, 147 infections have been recorded in just one camp – more than half the total 265 infections recorded among migrants since the outbreak of the pandemic, the AP news agency reports.

There are more than 6,000 migrants in Bosnia who are waiting for a chance to cross the border into EU member state Croatia. Many are accommodated in official asylum centers but others are sleeping in abandoned houses or makeshift tent towns along the Croatian border.

Releasing footage of migrants being taken ashore by the Border Force, Nigel Farage said on Saturday: “Many more boats escorted into Dover yesterday, there were even some beach landings at Dungeness. The same goes for this morning.”

Canary Islands: Four migrants found dead off El Hierro

Four people have been found dead in a makeshift boat carrying some 23 migrants near Spain's Canary Islands off the west coast of Africa, local authorities said. Nineteen of them were hospitalized on Tenerife.

At least four people were found dead on a migrant boat off the Canary Island of El Hierro on Sunday (April 11), the Spanish Red Cross said.

The vessel was spotted by a fishing boat around 193 kilometers to the south of El Hierro, the second-smallest of the seven main Canary Islands, according to local media.

A rescue operation was underway on Sunday afternoon, with three helicopters deployed to airlift the injured to safety. According to the Spanish coast guard, a fishing boat had spotted the migrant vessel.

Bihac: Last resting place for migrants dying on the EU’s doorstep

Since 2019, around a dozen migrants have been buried in the Humci cemetery in Bihac, but almost none of the graves are marked with names. Although authorities haven’t always been able to establish their identities, they have always determined their cause of death: None of them died "of natural causes."

The inscriptions on the tombstones at the Humci cemetery in Bihac show that the majority of the people buried there were born in the region. But at the bottom of the cemetery, a white headstone tells a different story. "Abdulhamed Noori, born in Herat, Afghanistan."

Next to it, several green headstones are marked with "NN Lice," which means "unidentified person" in Bosnian. On some of the headstones, the person’s place of death has been added. The bodies of "NN Lice 1," "NN Lice 2" and "NN Lice 3" – probably discovered at the same time – have been buried next to each other.

Most of the migrant bodies that have been found in and around Bihac so far have been discovered by members of SOS Bihac, a humanitarian aid group which regularly combs the region to help people in need. "Bodies have been found in the hills, near the camps, but also in the middle of the street," Zlatan Kovacevic, president of SOS Bihac, says.

According to Kovacevic, some of migrants have been murdered by the so-called "Ali Baba" – a group of robbers of foreign origin who target migrants as they try to cross the border into Croatia.

The migrants who try to defend themselves, risk being stabbed. "They’re not here to cross [the border], they’re just here to rob the refugees," the aid worker spits in a bitter voice.

The illegal border-crossing also poses a great risk to the migrants. Just south of Bihac, the Una River serves as a natural border with Croatia. It’s not uncommon for migrants to drown in the river, and the freezing-cold water is almost equally as dangerous for them. "A few days ago, our team found a young man suffering from hypothermia," Kovacevic recounts. "When we brought him into the car, he passed out. If we hadn’t found him in time, he would have died."

Germany: Young Afghan migrants found hiding in truck

Police in southwestern Germany have discovered seven young migrants inside a truck, four of them minors. The stowaways were from Afghanistan.

A motorist driving on national highway 6 in the southwestern German state of Rhineland-Pfalz called police last Thursday (April 8) after he kept seeing people's arms stretched out from under the canvas of a truck driving in front of him, according to a police press release.

When they stopped the truck police discovered seven people hidden among the cargo. They stowaways said they were from Afghanistan and requested asylum, police said.

While their identity and age could not be immediately confirmed, police said they believed the people concerned were between 15 and 20 years of age and unaccompanied. The four presumed minors were handed over to the youth welfare office.
